Straight Bat Vlog: what India needs is not just credible GDP numbers, BUT a GTD (Gross Trust Deficit) index. Be far more transparent when putting out important data; equally stop dissing data when it doesn’t suit a narrative. What explains the controversy over GST numbers and why interrogating data is a sign of a healthy democracy. Watch the Full video here:

SHOCKER: when CJP’s Ashutosh Ranka with his team reached a village near Jaipur to examine the state of a local school, they were heckled, chased and physically attacked by a group of villagers who CJP claims were BJP workers/supporters. Why should anyone resort to violence when the focus should be a serious debate on state of village schools? Note: these videos are going viral and will only lead to more questions being asked by Gen Z and even greater demand for accountability 🙏

The most iconic Freedom Run ad on Doordarshan, one that brought a nation together in a spirit of glorious patriotism. This was 1987 when Rajiv Gandhi was PM (it’s his birth anniversary today) and DD was creating some brilliant trend setting shows. Sadly, today in an age of performative nationalism, we make Insta reels that often lack genuine emotion. And the same public service broadcaster who once united a nation now divides us with toxic religious propaganda. Tragic. 🙏

FACE OF URBAN INFRA: Gurugram reportedly has the highest net worth individuals per sq km (along with Mumbai’s Malabar Hill) but clearly NO proper drainage. Another day of rain, familiar water-logging. Citizens will rant on social media but little seems to change on ground.

CONFUSION: so what does Govt taking ‘accountability’ exactly mean Sonam Wangchuk ? How can there be a protest march when Delhi Police has imposed Sec 163? Will political leaders go to hospital or attend Parliament? More questions than any answers or any clarity this morning. Meanwhile, 100s of protestors remain in and around Jantar Mantar amidst heavy security presence . UNCLEAR what happens next.

IMPORTANT: Several videos showing police excesses against student protestors are deeply disturbing and must be investigated. But there are also videos of stone-pelting and vandalism by some protestors. Violence, whoever commits it, cannot be justified. Cockroaches of India must unequivocally condemn ALL violence to ensure legitimate anger does not descend into anarchy. And the real issues of urgent exam reform don’t get lost as a result.🙏

SMART Cities? Or SINKING cities? A newly built road in Surat collapses, swallowing a water tanker. Every monsoon exposes the same story: poor construction, zero accountability, and public money literally sinking into the potholed ground. Will Govt give us an audit of where the Smart City funds went? Or some questions can’t be asked? 😡

Defection politics Mumbai ‘istyle’: Maharashtra’s political message is simple: switch sides, get rewarded. Last week Worli strongman Sachin Ahir was happily posing with Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena; this week he is with Eknath Shinde’s Sena and becomes Deputy Chairman of the Vidhan Parishad. Haryana’s ‘Aya Ram Gaya Ram’ politics has found its most successful franchise. Around two thirds of legislators have been in more than one party in last decade!!😡

A shirtless protest by Youth Congress workers at Global AI Summit against PM Modi. Surely there are far better ways to raise a dissenting voice (which is their constitutional right) than disrupt a global gathering where the focus is on technology for the future and not politics as usual? POOR TASTE.

In communal violence, it’s the poor who suffer the most. This man’s small roadside shop was burnt in Gurugram’s sector 66 this evening. Who will compensate him and many others like him across BOTH communities? Will the ‘mob’ who did this get away? And the key Haryana Qs: WHERE ARE THE COPS? (Video: Sreya )

REALITY CHECK: It doesn’t take a cloudburst to paralyse our “smart” cities. A few hours of rain and Noida goes under, just as Gurugram did days ago. The problem isn’t the monsoon. It’s the failure to build cities that can withstand it. Not easy but better, more accountable urban governance might help. Pic here: from a Noida main road today.
