"They take your money in the fees, and they pay them to the government when they get in trouble. This was Chinese money laundering, one of the worst things you can possibly do. $5 billion that people know about, probably a lot more, and they only get a $1.2 billion fine, and nobody goes to jail." "Meanwhile, CZ goes to jail in the United States for lesser crimes than the ones that are transparently being enacted by our very own banks, and nobody blinks an eye." "This is why we Bitcoin. An onchain analyst named Spectre estimated suspected losses around $86 million, involving hundreds of wallets across Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron. I have not seen a comment from Ledger yet." "Now, Ledger had had their breaches in the past. It seems to always come with one of the third parties." "The question is, when you participate in self-custody, who are you actually trusting for all the steps in between? The whole point of self-custody was no counterparty risk, but there's a lot of counterparties you don't even know exist, like the third-party resellers who have your data or can gain some sort of access." "We don't know if anyone's individual device was hacked, to be clear. We don't know if this was a phishing scam, like you get an email from this third party telling you you need to move your coins from one device to another and you get hacked. But we do know that there has been an exploit and that it's coming exclusively in this case from Ledger devices. Doesn't mean that somebody broke Ledger's hardware security."

The "trillions are coming onchain" thesis leaves a key question unanswered: how do token holders capture value? "This is where we need to stop nodding along with the presentation and ask a very basic question. Where exactly do I get paid?" "You have seen the slide. Global stocks are worth an enormous amount. Bonds are worth an enormous amount. Real estate is worth an enormous amount." "Then somebody puts a tiny crypto market cap beside those numbers and lets your imagination finish the sales pitch." "The value of assets using a system is not the revenue of that system. And the system's revenue is not automatically income for its token holders." "A highway does not become worth the combined value of every truck driving over it. Who owns the road? Who collects the toll? How much is the toll? And can drivers take another route?" "Those are the questions that turn a big story into an investment thesis. 'Trillions are coming onchain' does not answer them. It gives you a large number and something exciting to repeat."
