I was asked about these Mareep in Wild Zone 1. Turns out they are shiny-locked until you complete the shiny Mareep side mission! Catching the shiny Mareep isn't a requirement, so you could technically have all 3 shiny. You can see they generate as "never shiny" in this clip.

I was date skipping for an Antique Sinistea outbreak and noticed it's a LOT worse than before SV version 2.0.1. After 30 min to an hour, the framerate drops are quite noticeable. I kept on going and my game looks like this. I think they broke something adding event outbreaks.

Did some testing with friendship in LZA. May I introduce the bench method for gaining friendship? All the coffees/teas give +30 friendship to the active Pokémon, but sitting on a bench and getting up gives your entire party +10 friendship each time! May be faster for multiples.

I gave away a box of 30 shiny Carvanha from my shiny alpha Slowpoke hunt on this trade code today! They were all named "hi ur qt." It took a total of 64 trades and this is what I got in return.

How many times can you battle Jacinthe in Le Super-Tournoi de Jacinthe O? It looks like she only counts up to 999,999 battles. You can keep going, but battles after that are always #999,999. You get experience and the privilege of battling her again. What more could you want?

The reason the critical catch rate seems so high in Scarlet/Violet is this: Once you've registered a Pokémon species in your Pokédex, future successful captures of that species display as critical captures, even if they were regular captures.

I finally figured it out... each day that you enter the IoA map, the Isle of Armor Wailord has a 1/100 chance to return! You get 1 try per day &amp; visit. If you wait 1000 days and then visit IoA, that's 1 check. If you advance 1 day and visit IoA 1000 times, that's also 1 check.

Why does wild Hattrem spawn in Kitakami but not in Paldea? Hattrem is a "lake" biome spawn in Paldea, and a "grass" biome spawn in Kitakami. Its eligible "lake" spawners are actually in water in Paldea. When I moved one of its "lake" spawners onto land, it spawned Hattrem!

Today, I'll share a couple of new mechanics I learned about the Poké Radar in XY! Researching on 3DS is pretty different from my usual research, which focuses on Switch, so I used this as an exercise to learn new skills.

Today, I'll explain how the LGPE capture rewards work. This is another area where community understanding has been incomplete/incorrect since game release! There is math in this thread because the mechanics are fairly complex. I will also explain how berry rewards are bugged.

LZA has special behavior to keep shiny Pokémon from despawning! This looks to be intentional. The game stashes up to 10 shiny Pokémon and keeps them from despawning if you leave the area. Essentially, nonshinies are rerolled but shinies are not, as you can see here in this clip.

The Item Printer can be gamed with the system clock! The first time you boot up the game, opening the Item Printer sets the RNG seed based on the system time. For 10 rare balls: May 20, 2016, 2:11:13 AM (select "I want to print" 11 sec in for enough time to fade to black)

Hisuian Qwilfish's evolution requirement is now to hit 20 targets with Barb Barrage, not to use it 20 times. The game considers NPCs "targets" though, so if you catch these 2 and the dummy in the attack, it adds +3 each time. Your player doesn't count even though they flinch.

If you want specific rare balls in the LZA DLC, save in front of the item NPCs in Battle Zones after you defeat them and reset the game if they don't give you the balls you want! Here's a demo of resetting the Sport Ball for a Safari Ball. (Thanks @mattyoukhana_ for the clip!)

SV version 1.3.2 added a new, interesting message: "Mew is going to go all out against this formidable opponent!" This is used when a Mew enters a 7-Star Mewtwo raid! Mew gets a 50% HP boost and 20% stat boost to all 5 other stats.

Since capture formula won the vote, today I'll tell you how Legends: Z-A determines a successful capture! The formula is based on the one used in games like SWSH and SV rather than Legends: Arceus, but is modified for features specific to LZA.

I did some pathing today with gdb to plan how to shiny hunt all 5 Legendaries in the special scans, so I will share. For example, I can reset Virizion by running back and forth from the corner balcony to across the street! GDB shows exactly when it's generated in the top right.

Now that the dust has settled, I'll write my own thread about how to manipulate the RNG for the Item Printer! A fun date/time to start: March 21, 2039 12:14:42 PM (go 1-2s early) Print 1 for 9 Pretty Feathers and Ball Bonus. Immediately print 10 for a set of regular apriballs!

I'm interrupting all of the LZA talk to let you know that Malamar is my Best Friend. She is also the Chosen One, Great, and a Reliable Partner! This was a side project since the reveal of Mega Malamar. She'll be staying in SV for a while since we can't see her ribbons in LZA.

I ran a lot of laps and finally Latios is shiny after 2695 seen! This was with Shiny Charm + Sparkling Lv. 2 for 1/683, but it generated with 4 shiny rolls so I could have done the whole thing with only Shiny Charm for the same result🙃

There's a subtle friendship bonus in LZA! Similar to previous games, Pokémon with maximum friendship have a 1/12 base chance of critical hits rather than the standard 1/24. This is only during offline gameplay, not online (ranked/link battles). Thanks to サイファー for the tip!

The (frustrating) LGPE flee mechanic has been on my todo list for a long time because I couldn't figure out how to find the code logic. Today, I blundered into it! Everything I can find online about it has incorrect/incomplete information, so I'll tell you how it really works :)

This question about random camp items in SWSH took me a long time (10 months) to solve because I couldn't trigger it. People told me it happened after curry, while idling in camp, and while calling Pokémon over. None of these worked consistently for me. Here's a brief write-up.

Latias is the easiest to find a path for since you can see it. I find that you only have to tag the corner of the roof for it to spawn in. The despawn position can vary depending on how much Latias has moved around; sometimes I have to run a bit even after jumping off.

Ursaluna enjoyers and those who didn't know: You can use subzones to farm Peat Blocks in Legends: Arceus! Basically, find a Peat Block close to a subzone like Valor Cavern. Make sure you're inside when 3 min tick by from the time you dug it up. You can repeat this indefinitely.
