‘नानक शाह फ़क़ीर’ फ़िल्म की शूटिंग के दौरान मुझे लखपत (कच्छ, गुजरात) में पंडित मूलचंद जी के 600 साल पुराने घर के दर्शन का सौभाग्य मिला। आज यही घर ऐतिहासिक गुरुद्वारा है, जहाँ गुरु नानक जी और उनके ज्येष्ठ पुत्र बाबा श्रीचंद जी की दुर्लभ खड़ाऊँ सुरक्षित हैं। मौजूदा गुरुद्वारा भवन उन्नीसवीं सदी के आरंभ का है। इस पवित्र घर ने 1819 का महाभूकंप और 2001 का भुज भूकंप झेला, फिर भी अडिग खड़ा रहा। UNESCO ने 2004 में, इसे “Award of Distinction” से सम्मानित किया। यह स्थान उदासी परंपरा की जीती-जागती धरोहर है। दुर्भाग्य से अकाल तख़्त, SGPC और हमारे तथाकथित सिख नेतृत्व ने कच्छ के ऐतिहासिक गुरुद्वारा लखपत साहिब और उससे जुड़ी इस विलक्षण विरासत को व्यापक समाज के सामने लाने का प्रयास भी नहीं किया। लखपत साहिब के उस कक्ष में जो शांति और आध्यात्मिक स्पंदन मैंने महसूस किया, उसे शब्दों में बाँधना कठिन है। यह सिर्फ़ एक गुरुद्वारा नहीं, गुरु नानक जी की यात्राओं, बाबा श्रीचंद जी की उदासी परंपरा और भारत की साझा आध्यात्मिक विरासत का एक जीवंत अध्याय है।

Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled over 25,000 kilometres across the then-known world, confronting tyranny, deceit and countless challenges while spreading his message of truth, compassion and oneness. Making Nanak Shah Fakir was, in many ways, a similar test of faith. Despite receiving written approvals from SGPC, Akal Takht, I encountered repeated obstacles, reversals and opposition, including from the same religious heads.
