The Somali military has released drone footage showing Al-Shabaab fighters fleeing from areas on the outskirts of Bariire district in the Lower Shabelle region. The operation was carried out by the Gorgor Special Forces, which were trained by Turkiye. This is the Turkish Commando Training School in Isparta. Hundreds of members of an elite Somali commando unit have graduated from a training program in Türkiye under a bilateral agreement aimed at strengthening the Somali Armed Forces. During their time in training, the soldiers also developed strong skills in the Turkish language, to the level of near-native fluency. Many Somalis are interested in learning the language as well. Turkish F-16 fighter jets were seen taking off early Saturday from Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, according to videos circulating on social media. The aircraft reportedly carried out airstrikes along the Shabelle River, particularly near the Hawaadleey area, where fighters from Al-Shabaab had dug defensive trenches after being pushed out of the town. Somali forces continue ground operations in the region with aerial support from Turkey, as security cooperation between Somalia and Turkey deepens. Local sources also say Turkish aircraft are increasingly monitoring Somalia’s borders amid the expanding military partnership between the two countries.

Alper Aktaş, the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, along with Turkish military officials stationed in Somalia, visited the Jazeera area on the outskirts of Mogadishu today for a recreational trip. They were warmly received by Somalia’s Minister of Education, senior military officers, and other government officials. Somalia has now reached a high level of security, allowing safe visits to areas outside the capital and even more remote regions.
