I watched my team Scottland FC lock horns with South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, a 44,000 seater stadium that was packed to the rafters. Both sides sent out their developmental outfits in the opening 45 minutes, and it was during this spell that our defence was breached, as we found ourselves trailing by a goal. The intensity went up several gears after the restart, with both coaches rolling out their first choice elevens. Scottland completely bossed the midfield, dictating the tempo and enjoying a lion's share of possession. However, despite our territorial advantage, we simply lacked the cutting edge in the final third and couldn't find the back of the net. That said, despite the narrow 1-0 defeat in a stadium packed with fervent Kaizer Chiefs supporters, Mabviravira stood out, putting in a rock solid shift.

The song below was sung by Cde Chinx (Cde Dick Chingaira) in the late 1970s. A ZANLA Choir leader and veteran of our liberation struggle , he used Chimurenga music at pungwe to mobilise the masses and raise morale at bases and camps. It was sung after ZANLA controlled many liberated zones, where comrades moved through Chimurenga routes. It remains a reminder of the Second Chimurenga and our liberation history.

Today, hundreds of mourners gathered at the Masimirembwa rural homestead in Zambure Village, Uzumba, to pay their last respects to Gogo Christina Masimirembwa (née Simbi), mother of our ZANU PF Provincial Chairman, Cde Godwills Masimirembwa. She leaves behind a legacy that all can cherish. As was common during the colonial era, many husbands lived in towns as domestic workers, leaving wives solely responsible for raising children in the rural homes. Despite those challenges, Gogo Christina raised children who have excelled in various fields: a political leader who is also a lawyer and businessman (Cde Godwills Masimirembwa), Professor Collen Masimirembwa, a biomedical pharmacologist and Professor of Biochemistry, who is one of the pioneers of DNA research locally, Itai Masimirembwa, an IT expert; as well as an accountant and another IT engineer.This is the inspiring story of a woman who dared to ensure her children became better than herself, the wish and goal of every parent. As many testified, the family and community have lost a woman of valour. She was 88 years old.May her dear soul continue to rest in peace, and may her life's journey continue to inspire many.

Pedzai Scott Sakupwanya was born and bred in Mabvuku. Job 1:21 reminds us, "The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away." This verse comes to mind in moments of profound loss. On Friday, our comrade, Cde Tendai Wenyika, lost her 11-year-old son. We gathered at the family home in Ashdown Park to mourn and later laid the young one to rest at Glen Forest, Mike Jnr Gava. May the Lord continue to comfort and strengthen the family during this heartbreaking time.
