The students drew criticism after a video showed members of the group behaving loudly on a BTS train before allegedly mocking a Thai passenger who asked them to lower their voices. The incident prompted Thai netizens to flood the Italian Embassy's social media accounts with complaints, identify some of the students' personal social media profiles and confront the group at its Bangkok hotel. At least one Italian teacher was also wrongly identified online and subjected to harassment. The video, released by the Italian Embassy on Saturday, featured four representatives apologizing to the Thai people and expressing regret for offending Thai culture. They said the group had delayed responding because of fear, but acknowledged that waiting to address the incident had been a mistake. They also admitted their behaviour on the BTS was inappropriate and apologized to those affected. The representatives said the group does not condone the behaviour shown in the viral video and confirmed that the students directly involved would return to Italy as soon as possible.
