🇨🇦🇺🇸 US approves Canadian-designed icebreaker for Arctic cutters The United States has approved Seaspan’s Multi-Purpose Icebreaker design as the baseline for the US Coast Guard’s new Arctic Security Cutters, the Canadian company said on Jan 7. Under the ICE Pact, two hulls will be built in Finland and up to four in the US, alongside full transfer of design, engineering data, and supply chains. The Polar Class 4 vessels will displace up to 9,000 tonnes, have a 60-day endurance, a range of 12,000 nautical miles, and the capability to break ice up to 1.22 metres thick.

The Royal Navy has successfully completed the first At-Sea Strike Drone launch from a moving ship. It was not launched from an aircraft carrier. It was launched from the experimental ship XV Patrick Blackett while doing trials off the Dorset coast using the Nyan One Way Effector, a low-cost long range strike drone designed by BAE Systems.

This morning, the Marine Communications Traffic Services Centre in Port aux Basque received a MAYDAY call from the cargo ship MSC Baltic III, approximately 12 NM off the entrance to Bay of Islands. The Royal Canadian Air Force successfully airlifted the crew of MSC Baltic III.
