Our model continues to be aggressive an wet with the Arthur remnants Thursday night / Friday morning. I still think it's a bit much, but the longer it stays like this the more believable it gets. Main timing we're watching is Thursday night / Friday morning.

Ever seen a snow system look like this? A very picturesque low pressure system swirling off the coast of Alaska. Almost resembles a tropical system, even though of course it's frigid.

A really fascinating radar loop of this major winter storm. The snow map afterward is going to be wild to look at.

Our Futurecast is pretty aggressive with the Friday system. I think a little too wet, and a little too south with the frozen lines. Still, it gives you an idea on timing and what may be. Travel problems are certainly in play.

Still astounding to watch the radar loop from the 3 day barrage of rainfall before and during Hurricane Helene in Western NC last year. Next week is the one year anniversary.

Our model shows a brief opportunity for some snowfall Saturday afternoon into evening. Then the sleet moves in (pink) through Sunday morning. The biggest question is when do we switch to freezing rain and how much of that falls. Notice how COLD the air is.

Here's the first look at our forecast model, which goes out through midday Saturday. It sure highlights a big chunk of the Carolinas for heavy snowfall. This could be the one many snow lovers have waited for.

LOOP: We bullied our in-house model to be a little kinder with the dry slot. Filling in better on this afternoon's run.

Not a phone in sight, everybody just living in the moment.

Here's our Futurecast model through Sunday evening. We have a long way to go. Severe icing is looking more likely. Charge everything up.

Sleet is a lot harder to melt than snow. Solid balls of ice vs. delicate flakes. You'll be surprised how long that 1-2 inches hangs around our area through the week..

Afternoon update on what we're expecting to be a very big storm for North Carolina. We'll start quickly as snow Saturday PM - then a lot of sleet through Sunday AM - then a dangerous amount of ice possible Sunday afternoon and evening. Be safe out there and be prepared for power outages.
