A statue of Charlie Kirk seated in a folding chair was unveiled on stage at the memorial event at UVU. The statue, created for Turning Point USA by Utah artist Stan Watts, is described as “heroic size” — about 1½ times life-size. The piece may look familiar to Utah drivers: it was spotted being transported on the freeway several weeks ago.

⚠️🌊 FLASH FLOOD WARNING for parts of Kane County until 2 a.m. The National Weather Service is warning of a life-threatening flash flood moving through Lick Wash and Buckskin Gulch after heavy rain upstream. Forecasters say 1 to 1.5 inches of rain fell upstream, sending a VERY large flood wave south from U.S. 89 through Buckskin Gulch toward the Paria River. 🚨 If you're hiking, camping or recreating in the area: • Leave slot canyons immediately. • Move to higher ground. • Never attempt to cross flooded roads or washes. • Remember, flooding can occur even if it's not raining where you are. The National Weather Service says this is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. The flood wave is expected to continue moving through the canyon system for several hours. #utwx

FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS continue for parts of central and southern Utah today as monsoon moisture brings another round of storms to the region. Goblin Valley State Park is reminding visitors to stay out of canyons when rain is in the forecast, even if the chance appears low. The San Rafael Swell, including Goblin Valley, has faced repeated flash flood threats this week. Storms miles away can send water rushing through normally dry washes and narrow canyons with little warning. VIDEO: Goblin Valley State Park KUTV2news

BREAKING: Authorities have identified the man shot and killed on I-15 last Friday, March 27 as Sayed Mousavi, a 29-year-old living in Sandy. Investigators say the incident unfolded around 4:56 p.m. along I-15 near 3500 South, when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle was struck by a car driven by Mousavi, who was traveling northbound. After both vehicles came to a stop, the trooper approached and made contact. According to Utah Highway Patrol, Mousavi then brandished a knife, prompting the trooper to open fire. Mousavi was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper was not injured. The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by the Salt Lake County OICI Protocol Team 4, led by the West Jordan Police Department. No additional details have been released. Mousavi pleaded guilty in a case from November 2024, he was arrested in Sandy after authorities said he made threats to “kill Americans and kill the U.S.A.” Prosecutors also alleged he told police he planned to “buy guns and shoot up the Sandy Police Department.” In that case, Mousavi was charged with one count of making a threat of terrorism, three counts of failing to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, and a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.

🇺🇸🔥Amid the devastation left behind by the #CottonwoodFire in Beaver County, one sight stopped a crew working on the mountain in their tracks. A viewer shared this video after her husband and a co-worker found a small patch of trees where everything around it had burned, right up to an American flag. The flag was still standing, untouched. Whether you see it as a symbol of hope, resilience or simply one of those remarkable moments nature sometimes leaves behind, it's an incredible sight in the middle of so much loss, especially as we approach Independence Day during America's 250th anniversary celebration. 🚨 Drones + Helicopters = Dangerous and Illegal 🚨 Yesterday around 3:40 p.m., a drone was filmed flying directly above a LifeFlight helicopter as it landed at Primary Children’s Hospital to transport a critically ill child. Because the drone was spotted, all air operations had to stop until the area was cleared — causing a completely preventable delay in life-saving care. Flying a drone near emergency helicopters is extremely dangerous and illegal. A collision could be catastrophic, damaging rotor blades and putting patients, flight crews, and people on the ground at risk. Those responsible will be prosecuted and could face stiff fines or jail time. ⚠️ What you need to know: 🚁 Drones near hospitals, helipads, wildfires, or emergency scenes force helicopters to ground, stopping critical missions 💥 Drone–helicopter collisions have happened and can be deadly ⚖️ Flying a drone near aircraft is a federal offense, not just a citation 📏 Drones should not be flown within ¾ mile (1.4 km) of a helipad without FAA approval ⛔ If you see or hear a helicopter, land your drone immediately and move away
