Tyler Robinson, the man accused of shooting and killing Charlie Kirk on the Utah Valley University campus on Sept. 10, appeared in person for the first time in court today. He seemed oddly upbeat as he chatted with his attorneys while the death penalty case began. Robinson’s father, mother and brother were also in the courtroom. The defense asked that they be allowed to stay while the public and media were asked to leave for a closed session, but Judge Graf ruled the family must leave as well. The closed hearing focused on earlier proceedings and what information can legally be made public. Attorneys representing several media outlets are now arguing for access to those prior sessions, pushing for them to be opened to the public.

While we are all talking about the Holy War, and taking things too far, a little history. 1999- a bizarre moment at BYU made headlines when 19-year-old Brandon Perry ran onto the field and tackled cheerleader William Priddis. Priddis fought back, throwing several punches before the two were separated. No one was ever prosecuted, but following the incident, Perry was banned from the BYU campus. #HolyWar #BYUvsUTAH

🚀 From Utah to the Moon. The final solid rocket booster segments for NASA's Artemis III mission have left Promontory, Utah, and are on their way to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Built by Northrop Grumman, the massive boosters will help power the Space Launch System rocket, generating 7.2 million pounds of thrust at liftoff as NASA works toward returning astronauts to the moon. The newly shipped segments will join others already delivered to Florida and will be among the first pieces assembled for the mission.

ICE IN SLC: Salt Lake City Mayor Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall State of the City Address: "Two weeks ago, I learned of a potential Immigration & Customs Enforcement detention facility on our City’s west side. Gratefully, we have since learned that the property owners of the site will not sell or lease the property to the federal government. You may have read about a letter I sent to the property owners explaining why it wouldn’t work here. But let me be clear: this isn’t just about zoning restrictions. Such a facility has no place in this city. Whether at that site or anywhere else. Recent tactics used by the federal government—in Minnesota, in Maine, and elsewhere—are completely and utterly deplorable. These tactics are not making communities safer. They are creating chaos. They are eroding trust in law enforcement. They are resulting in the death of Americans exercising their constitutional rights and have no place in the America I call home. Nowhere in the United States is this acceptable and I will not stand for that here in our City. I want to make it clear that I am prepared to use every tool within my control to protect the values of Salt Lake City and the dignity of every one of our residents."

In just 48 hours, Floridians turned in 5,195 invasive green iguanas to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a surge of removals driven by an unusual cold snap and a temporary executive order that allowed the public to collect cold-stunned lizards without a permit.

WATCH: You’ve got to see this to believe it. Our assignment desk was monitoring the scanner around 9 p.m. when a pursuit call came in, with Utah Highway Patrol troopers chasing a motorcyclist near Mountain View. Authorities say the Department of Public Safety had a helicopter overhead tracking the rider. Then came an unexpected twist, the suspect had to stop for gas. Unaware he was still being watched, the rider pulled into a station and filled up his tank while public safety crews zoomed in with cameras and followed his every move. Staff in our newsroom were watching it unfold live. At that point, he likely thought he had shaken officers. He hadn’t. Cue the “Bad Boys” theme. The situation ended without injuries. According to UHP Sgt. Luis Silva, troopers took the rider into custody at the gas station after the Aero Bureau tracked him down.

Utah Bill to Strip Public Assistance from Undocumented Immigrants, those in the state illegally Passes Committee 7-3 Utah lawmakers are debating House Bill 88, sponsored by Rep. Trevor Lee, a Republican from Layton. This bill would require strict verification of lawful presence in the U.S. before anyone 18 or older can receive most state or locally funded public benefits. It removes many current exceptions, meaning programs like WIC nutrition for women, infants, and children, food assistance, vaccinations, treatment for communicable diseases, housing aid, homeless services, and non-emergency health care could be off-limits to those without legal status. Emergency medical care and short-term disaster relief would still be allowed regardless of immigration status. Bill sponsor Rep. Trevor Lee, calls it a "priority bill to put Utahns first," arguing taxpayer dollars should go to citizens and legal residents, not undocumented immigrants, and that it reduces incentives for illegal immigration. Critics, including the ACLU of Utah, Voices for Utah Children, health departments, and anti-hunger groups, say it's harmful—potentially endangering public health by limiting vaccines and disease treatment, hurting mixed-status families and kids, and creating barriers for nonprofits like food pantries. The bill will now move to the Utah House for debate. The bill does not currently have a Senate sponsor.

RECONSIDER PLANS- Planning a Christmas trip to Southern California? Many Utahns head south for the holidays, but you may want to rethink your plans. Southern California is bracing for a major storm expected to bring high winds and potentially months’ worth of rain in just one week. The system is set to hit the California coast late Tuesday, with torrential rain developing across Southern California early Wednesday and continuing through the evening. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level 4 of 4 high risk for flooding rain on Wednesday, impacting nearly six million people. Gov. Gavin Newsom has mobilized state resources ahead of the storm. Los Angeles County has issued evacuation orders and warnings for areas in and around recent burn scars due to the risk of flooding and debris flows. Evacuation warnings are also in place for parts of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Another storm is expected to arrive Thursday and continue into Friday, adding to concerns as the week unfolds.

Slackline World Champs 😬 If you have a 20-year-old son like mine, you unfortunately know what highlining is. Utah just hosted a slacklining competition 500 feet above solid rock. The BLM’s Canyon Country District held the first-ever Slackline World Cup event in the United States. Participants balanced along suspended lines stretched across a 200-foot ravine, then pulled off flips, spins, jumps and bounces, all while landing on an inch-wide strip of webbing. Double-check you’re strapped in, kids. And love to all the moms worrying about their adrenaline-junkie kids. #utah #slackline #redrock #adrenalinerush Video: BLM Utah
