Speak wisely A lot of people have been sending me this video, saying that our Pope is a racist because he did not greet the African priest who wanted to greet him. However, before saying that the Pope is racist and condemning him, do not forget that the Pope was in Africa not long ago, where he greeted many African priests and even laypeople. If he were racist, as some people claim, do you really think he would have visited Africa in the first place? Sometimes, you also need to understand humour and moments of action. I personally felt bad about what happened, but I tried to analyse the situation, and I honestly do not see anything wrong with it. It was not only the African priest he did not greet; there were also some white priests in front of him whom he did not greet. So, I see the situation as equal treatment. Some people are also saying that, because of racism, the Catholic Church has never had an African Pope. That is simply not true. In the early centuries of the Catholic Church, there were Popes from North Africa. - Pope Victor I (189–199 AD): Born in the Roman province of Africa, in an area corresponding to modern-day Tunisia or Libya, he is traditionally regarded as the first Pope from Africa. - Pope Miltiades (311–314 AD): Traditionally identified as being from North Africa. - Pope Gelasius I (492–496 AD): Traditionally regarded as being of African origin.
