With extreme heat like we’re currently experiencing, rail temperatures can soar above 135°F, which may cause bends in the rail due to thermal expansion. For years, Metro has monitored rail temps on “heat rides” to detect track issues before they happen. This year, we’re adding something new: applying reflective white paint to vulnerable segments, which lowers temps. With over 6,000 feet treated, we’re enhancing track lifespan and boosting safety and reliability! Here’s the team in action 💪

After completing classroom and practical instruction, operators step into our advanced train simulators, which recreate the experience of driving a train and prepares them for real-life conditions on the rails. They practice a variety of skills, including precision station stopping, vehicle control, and troubleshooting. Weather conditions and timing delays are some of the many things that operators need to consider when they’re behind the wheel, or should we say at the controls! It's all part of the preparation that keeps Metro running every day. 🚇

Starting Monday, you’ll see buses hitting the streets with brand new technology! 🚌 We are replacing exterior mirrors on our new buses with cameras and digital interior mirrors – providing operators with a brighter, clearer view of vehicles and other road users traveling behind and alongside the bus.
