100 degrees is not good golf weather but got... some work done yesterday. I’ve weakened my left hand grip significantly this year but had gone a little too far. I corrected that to square the face easier and continuing to get the right elbow deeper throughout the swing to build in leeway with my plane. Love this rope drill from Doug Spencer Ideally I’ll get closer to the rope and be able to move my low point further forward without hitting the rope. Left arm can release better too but swing is much more manageable now.show more

Working on a move where I get my right... palm more under the grip which helps to get my right elbow in. All while trying to keep my right thumb off the grip. It’s giving me much freer swings. Any swing doctors explain the science on this?show more

Here is a drill to help you learn what... it feels like to use the ground and start to sequence effectively. Notice how the club is setup in the video between my feet. Get to your back swing and jump favoring your lead foot left and laterally like I am. With that feeling step in and hit one. Not where you are pushing off from when you swing and try and get that into a feeling that makes sense to you. This is how power is created in the golf swing. This is also where physical limitations can show up.show more

Thoughts from Pebble: -18th hole is the hardest hole... in golf 😬🤦🏻‍♂️ -Really up and down week… Swing felt really good at times and really bad at times. I don’t feel like I’m too far off but not sharp either. Will work on my swing with Sean and try and get it going this week. -My short game was consistently bad though haha 😅. Couldn’t figure out the bunkers very well, and chipping was off. Not technique wise, just off with my touch. -Speaking of which, a tip for all you amateurs. You have to open the face when hitting bunker shots. The leading edge just digs way too much when you keep that face square. When you open the face, it doesn’t dig as much and you can release it more which is a better motion overall. -My amateur partners were great to play with. Thomas and Michael were both really nice guys and I hope they enjoyed their time. The weather the first two days were really great. Pebble in good weather is so so sick. -Good part is that my putting has definitely improved from last yr. I had a little trouble with greens being so slow this week but I’m finding my groove with my putting way more than last yr.show more

Killen, who has previously worked with Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods, and the main issue affecting consistency last year was his alignment: “Yeah, since I've been back playing golf, my shoulders have been right, my feet have been further right. So, I'm just trying to see my target before I hit the shot. “I've had a few people help me with the setup of golf clubs, but I’m really not working too much on my golf swing, just working on my setup. And if I can get that squared away, I know I can hit a lot of good shots.” AK was practicing down the range before every round on the Asian Tour last year using alignment sticks and doing a little shimmy to get the feels right. No tweets last two days cuz I was doing... my day job with my coach/boss Sean Foley. First swing is what I’m trying to feel. Really get to my right side, stay there during the transition and then go thru. Reason for this is I have a tendency to pull really hard with my arms and shift too early in the transition causing the club to get too far out. Then to get it back inside, I side bend late which causes too much flipping.show more

Totally agree. We definitely should define a swing and... automating it is great. It's the actual definition that I have a question with. Personally, I think 45 degrees is too liberal (parallel to the foul line). To me, if the bat goes past parallel with the plate/breaking wrists it should be a swing (0 degrees). I'm pitcher friendly, obviously, but I don't think you should be able to hit a ball 300' with a "non swing" ! 😁show more

Ben Hogan’s left arm got closer to his chest... as he turned through the shot. Instinctually, a lot of golfers “chicken wing” because they think they can hit the ball harder. But that’s not how serious compression is created. Pull in as you turn the corner, and keep that upper left arm tied to the chest. That’s where the speed, control, and compression come together. Bryson DeChambeau hasn’t played since the Ryder Cup and... he won’t be again until LIV Golf Riyadh in February. He says he’s been speed training through the off season though and has a target of reaching a comfortable 200mph ball speed. He’s also been playing table tennis with America’s number 1, Kanak Jha. Speaking to Tom Hobbs from Flushing It Golf, Bryson said: “I’m not playing until Riyadh. I’m going to be going in hot though. I’m sneaky working on my game really hard. “I'm going to start ramping up my speed again. I ramped up my speed in November, got it to where I was pumping over 190 quite efficiently with some slow golf balls and stuff. I got to 200 quite a bit. “I haven’t done much recently though. I was playing some ping pong actually the past couple of days with the number one USA player, Kanak Jha. He's so much fun. Ping Pong is my favourite sport, so I got to learn a little bit from the best in the U.S. He’s twenty first in the world. So nobody's really gotten that high from the U.S. which is sweet. “But I'll get back to speed training right after Christmas and going into the new season, I want to be close to 200. So that's my goal. I’ll just get to a place where I’m super comfortable swinging fast.” The last time Bryson went after speed he gained an enormous amount of mass. He’s come back down through the weights though over the last few seasons and is much healthier for it. But, if Force = Mass x Acceleration, will he look to add more mass again and what’s more important, increasing acceleration or gaining mass? “They're both very important. If you don't have any mass, you can't accelerate it. It's a symbiotic relationship. It's actually more like F equals M V squared, that’s more of the velocity side of it. “You can accelerate too, but what I would say is the most important thing is it's not necessarily the mass or the acceleration, it’s the ability to put pressure onto the club. So you're able to apply pressure and control that through your grip strengths around a circle, that's probably the more important piece. Applying controlled pressure to the golf club like grip pressure. “It's not that you just accelerate the club, because you have to learn how to control the face through that motion as well. So it's all, you know, you can say it's acceleration, but it's a lot of grip pressure stuff. The more you control the grip pressure and how you're moving that grip, I would say that’s more the answer to your question. “And I guess at a certain point there’s dimishning return with, you know, going up in the mass and even down in the mass. There is a sweet spot for swinging a golf club. If you get a speedstick, there's just not enough mass behind it to create the smash factor necessary, and vice versa if it is too heavy, you can’t swing it that fast. “I'll always say swinging and accelerating the club is probably the most important, but the real answer is applying the most pressure to the golf club. The grip pressure. You’re not gripping it tighter, but your hand force into it pulling it and then throwing it around the corner.” Continues in comments thread below.
