A Royal Air Force Rivet Joint aircraft operating in... international airspace over the Black Sea was dangerously intercepted by Russian military jets – flying as close as six metres and triggering onboard emergency systems. Despite these reckless manoeuvres, RAF crew completed their mission safely. The fight against cybercrime has entered a new and... stronger global phase. Ghana joined 54 other countries in signing the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime during the Signing Ceremony and High-Level Conference which marks a major milestone in the world’s collective effort to combat cyber threats that know no borders. The signing was done by the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, who also delivered Ghana’s statement; reaffirming our nation’s strong commitment to international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime. For Ghana, this Convention strengthens our ability to collaborate internationally, access digital evidence more effectively, and enhance law enforcement capacity to investigate and prevent complex cybercrimes. It is a powerful step toward protecting citizens, businesses, and institutions in our digital ecosystem. Together with our partners, we supported the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war, stop the killings, and achieve a just and lasting peace. I am grateful to the partners for our shared position: the path to peace cannot be determined without Ukraine, and negotiations can only yield results if they take place under a ceasefire. I am also grateful for the active support of our state as long as Russia has not agreed to a ceasefire. I called on our partners to finance Ukrainian drone production to enhance our country’s defense capabilities and to join the new NATO PURL instrument for the procurement of U.S. weapons. During the meeting, we coordinated the next steps and agreed to continue working in close contact between Ukraine, all of Europe, and the United States. Russia deliberately brings war into the New Year –... launching more than two hundred attack drones against Ukraine overnight. Most of them were successfully shot down, and I thank all our warriors who repelled this attack. The strikes hit the Volyn, Rivne, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions. The targets were our energy infrastructure. Wherever necessary, rescuers are providing assistance, and power engineers are restoring electricity after the strikes. I thank every person involved in responding to the aftermath. The killings must be stopped – there can be no pauses in protecting human life. If the strikes do not stop even during the New Year holidays, then air defense deliveries cannot be delayed. Our allies have the necessary scarce equipment. We expect that everything agreed with the United States at the end of December for our protection will be delivered on time. 🇨🇦 Canada’s new defence plan reads like a diplomatic... alarm bell: America’s closest neighbour is preparing to spend dramatically more on its military while deliberately cutting its dependence on U.S. defence suppliers. Ottawa’s target is to lift defence and security spending to NATO’s new benchmark of 5 percent of GDP by 2035, with the plan structured around rebuilding Canadian production capacity and scaling a domestic defence industry that can actually deliver at volume. The sharpest signal is procurement. Canada intends to steer roughly 70 percent of defence acquisition spending to Canadian firms, up from about half today, explicitly to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and to build “national champions” at home. The strategy also frames this as an economic programme as much as a security one, tied to jobs, exports, and industrial growth. And yes, the subtext is bigger than Canada. This is what allied “de-risking” looks like in real time: not a press release about shared values, but a hard pivot of contracts, supply chains, and long term capability planning away from the United States.
