A recent commenter complained (extensively, at great length over... many comments) about how a crew can frame a 2000 square foot house in a day and a half, that taking time to do line rule/timber framing is a waste of time and resources, and that he literally cannot get excited about building a house. Sad, but not surprising. It's pretty obvious that houses today are framed by guys who don't like their jobs and want to get it done as quickly as possible. What about labor?!?! The biggest pushback we get on... timber framing is "my labor tho!" Yes, timber framing takes time. Yes, it takes a little more skill than stick framing. (This feels unfair to say because there are some spectacular modern carpenters out there, but. But your basic build quality is fairly low, on average.) However, it is completely possible to slowly build your own timber frame over time in a way that simply isn't possible with a stick frame build that's sitting out in the weather. A friend is about to raise his 12x16 timber frame cabin (it will be used as a workshop) after working nights and weekends for a year+ That time would have passed, anyway. Last I checked, Netflix doesn't pay you to watch it. If you're doing timber framing for yourself on your own time, why worry about the "labor cost?" It's the little things that make me excited about... the future. Many people are (rightfully) worried that AI and robotics will take their jobs. Yes, it's about money they need to live on, and solutions are needed. At the same time, it's often work that's strenuous and tedious. So we can be glad when robots take these tasks off our hands. Furthermore, robots don't need breaks, vacations, or sleep. They can be scaled quickly and are efficient. As a mature adult, we should make a decision... when we face two or more options. Before we make decision, we can spend some time to question it and do a lot of research. But after we make decision, we must try our best to work on our goal and contribute to it. If we feel it is not going as we expected or we don't want to study how to improve it. We can make a decision to stop it instead of complaining. Because complaining cannot resolve anything. It will bring a lot of negative energy in our body. If we spread our complaint to the community or to put family or our colleagues , we can only let them feel we are very weak who always need attention and we are not a good person to cooperate or get along. We just launched our biggest creator partnership to date.... We're excited about it. It's done really well so far. We launched a product with a well-known creator last week. That has gone really well and will unfortunately be out of stock on a bunch of shades soon. We did an in-person event with her at, 8 months pregnant today at one of our stores. It was our first time ever hanging blister packs to sample. We had a bunch of blister packs and a bunch of agile trucks, plus some other out-of-home. It's all a big content play, but also building community and introing people to the brand and getting samples in as many people's hands as possible. We just bought a rivian and wrapped it for sampling events. Hoping to give away 7 figures in samples this year and next. We started with 1 but I’m gonna pull the trigger on a few more once we see signs of traction. We’re opening 12 stores this year and doubling down on IRL, community, and sampling.
