Files move, assurances are given, elections come and go, but basic roads still don’t reach many mountain communities. I’m working from a small village in north east... India this week. Place took me 4 modes of transport and 24 hours to get to. Everyone knows everyone here. To a degree that you can step out and everyone will invite you to their house for tea/black coffee because they know you’re someone’s guest. All the houses here have their own private ponds. Fishing is a thing. Growing your own veggies is a thing. People are cooking together today for some festival. Men are cutting vegetables. Women are cooking. People take turns to serve food while others eat. Saw a snake casually chilling by a pond. Nobody budged. This place is like the Australia of India. Messi is really popular here. I’ve met a kids named Messi. Someone from the village paid 10 lakh for a selfie with Messi when he came to Kolkata Rock music has its own fan base in the village children. Arctic monkeys is really popular. So is stranger things. They’re looking at me work on my laptop asking me if this is how I’ll spend all my time. Nturo, a martyred village, evacuated three times in 30... years (Original in French published yesterday) The village of Nturo tragically illustrates the fate of Congolese Tutsis. Three times since 1994, these cattle herders have been forced to abandon their lands. Nearly all their cows have been slaughtered, and many of them have been killed by the militias rampant in the region. As early as 1995, Hutu génocidaires and the defeated Rwandan army began venturing farther and farther from the Goma camps, where they were generously assisted by international organizations that turned a blind eye to the fact that they were aiding murderers (including women, often complicit in the genocide). Stolen cattle were slaughtered in abattoirs funded by international aid! Stripped of their belongings and threatened with death simply for being Tutsis - and for the génocidaires, it was about finishing the “job” - they were forced to seek refuge in Rwanda or Uganda, where they lived in camps for years. On October 5, 2023, the village was set ablaze by the Hutu Nyatura militia, the FDLR, and the FARDC. Burundian troops, present as part of one of the many “peace agreements,” were camped on a hill just a few hundred meters away. They stood by, weapons at rest, in perfect complicity with the arsonists. The residents, having had time to flee to Bwiza in an area controlled by the M23, returned two months later after the zone was retaken by the latter. They found their village completely devastated. Since then, they have rebuilt it, but in a more concentrated manner: isolated homes—seen burning in the images—were deemed too difficult to defend. The work accomplished is impressive. Freshly cut wood bears witness to the recent reconstruction. During my daytime visit, only one generator was running. A few kilometers away, you can see the power line supplying Kabila’s farm, but no village benefits from it. These Congolese Tutsis, rooted in Masisi since time immemorial, have been driven from their lands three times in thirty years, the most recent being less than two years ago. They have been massacred, their cattle stolen or killed. Why would they trust the authorities in Kinshasa or the “international community”? i think it’s been enough time & we can... finally address this particular discourse, and i think there’s a healthy discussion we can have about it. i genuinely think a fully traditional rendition in 2026, by artists operating at a global pop level, would have changed how the project was received internationally. there’s a very real possibility it would’ve been boxed into “world music,” treated more like cultural exhibition than a modern musical statement, keeping in mind that Arirang Album is not for 'aesthetics' nor is it a history lesson. using 808s, trap production, pop structures, and english hooks while still centering Arirang was actually a significant artistic choice. historically, Arirang was the song of ordinary people. in today’s world, pop culture/pop music is the common language. using contemporary pop to carry that sentiment to millions of listeners across countries feels very aligned with the spirit of what Arirang represented in its own time. and ‘unapologetically korean’ does not have to mean “only in korean” or “frozen in tradition.” it can also mean Korean artists having full control over how their culture is presented, modernized, exported, and understood. i also think if they had leaned entirely into historical styling and traditional presentation, western media may have reduced it to a “cultural curiosity” instead of engaging with it as a current, competitive pop release. critics likely would’ve framed it as heritage performance before artistry. i am glad they chose this route for the album.show more

In December 2025, after myself and a few community members spearheaded a regime change and ensured a proper election was conducted. After the election, we told the newly elected chairman (who happens to be my very very good friend) that the priority is for us to get our own dedicated Transformer for the community. Initially, we were thinking of buying. But considering it will cost over N20million to buy a 500KVA Transformer and another N15million plus for accessories and installation, the mission looked impossible. Then I and others told the Chairman that we can actually give it a try an reach out to the aedcelectricity for a Transformer given that the NERC Nigeria has told Nigerians that it is the responsibility of the DISCOs to provide Transformer and any power related infrastructure to any community or area in need of such infrastructure. Considering the Nigerian factor, many, infact, almost the entire community said it was never going to be possible for AEDC to give us a Transformer free of charge. But as someone who has been an advocate of government and who has always benefited from government by following due process, I encouraged my community and the Chairman that this is actually worth a try. In January 2026, we drafted a Transformer request letter and submitted to the AEDC Head Office at Wuse Zone 4, and the processes began. Low and behold, in less than 4 months, the AEDC, yesterday, delivered a brand new 500KVA Transformer with complete accessories to my community FREE-OF-CHARGE!🤸‍♂️🕺 I have told my community people that we have started benefitting our own share of the N3.3trillion approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to GENCOs and all of us have agreed that come 2027, it is TINUBU OR NOTHING!!!🤗💪🏾 God bless the AEDC! According to the reports, her son Kunal bought an iPhone 15 but couldn’t pay its EMI. He asked his parents to pay it, but they refused. He then went to the edge of a cliff and threatened to jump if they didn’t pay the EMI. However, another report tells a completely different story. It says Kunal was already dealing with serious family problems and severe depression, while the village Sarpanch was offering him an iPhone 15 in an attempt to stop him from taking such a drastic step. My question is: Whywould a youngster, who knows that the iPhone 15 is already two generations old and wasn’t even the best model of its generation, take such an extreme step over it? And if his mother already owns an iPhone 16 Pro, how does the story of a family being unable to afford an iPhone 15 actually add up?
