When you slow plays down to 1/100th the speed, it distorts what actually happened and makes it look like, in this case, Cooks possessed the ball for seconds prior to losing it. The game is not played in slow motion or frame by frame. For a catch: A) Secure control of the ball ✅ B) Two feet down in bounds ✅ C) After (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so. C is where there is a judgement needed since A and B are clearly met. Now consider this note to the rule: If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds. A lot of hitters confuse being late with letting... the ball get deep. They’re not the same thing. In this video I show it with a simple example. I toss the ball and reach way out in front of me to catch it. That’s what late looks like. The ball already beat you… now you’re chasing it with your hands. Then I toss another one and catch it slightly behind me. That’s being on time and letting the ball get deep. When you’re late, your body and barrel are reacting after the ball passes your window. You’re forced to reach, cut across it, or roll it over. When you’re on time, you can let the ball travel and still control it. Now the barrel can stay through the zone longer, and you can drive it with authority. Deep ≠ late. In the outfield if you open up to one... side of a hard hit ball & the ball is on the opposite side just rotate your head to the ball verses trying to turn your entire body back to the ball. Was it close? Yes! Did refs get it wrong?... No. Brandin Cooks DID NOT maintain possession all the way through. Both men had hands on the ball, but Cooks instantly loses grip once he hits the ground. Therefore, it’s a live ball until FULLY possessed or it touches grass.show more

Here's GameDay 3D on the Cole/Rizzo play. Clearly and... obviously all on Cole for those still not believing all the former pros and coaches patiently explaining it to you. A few notes from the 3D: 1) Rizzo has to cover ground, positioned for a righty. Not seen on the broadcast, but it wasn't in front of him at all. 2) The spin on the "cued" ball is evident, and Rizzo smartly stayed back anticipating it. If he charges this ball, he likely misses it. 3) When Rizzo leans back for the bad bounce, it makes it impossible for him to beat Betts to the bag. Betts is at full speed, Rizzo from a standstill. 4) Cole clearly breaks to cover 1B, and Rizzo can see this before fielding the ball, he has every reason to believe Cole will be covering when he looks up after gloving the ball 5) Cole clearly would have beaten Betts to the bag had he continued to run to cover And as we all know, there is simply no excuse for the pitcher to not get there even on routine plays, just in case. Med Ball Spikeball Variation Some rules: • Everyone has... to touch the ball 1 time before returning it to the box • If a team fails to have everyone on their team touch it or fail to return it to the box then it’s the opposite teams point. • The ball must hit the box and go up. If it hits the side/corner of the box and immediately goes down it is the other teams point. You can all adjust and make up your own rules! Can be played 2v2, 3v3, or even 4v4.
