Can't help but smile at this one. One of... those stories I think we are going to look back and laugh at one day. ⬇️ James Voorhies was an uncommitted catcher (and a very good one) just over a year ago. Hadn't thrown a varsity inning on the mound. In October going into his senior year I played catch with him at the local elementary school. We threw on a crabgrass field and I told him after 15 minutes of playing catch that his arm, body type, and feel for the baseball were far too advanced for him to not be on the mound. James agreed to start throwing bullpens and "give it a shot". 3 weeks later I did a workout with some of our clients and James threw a bullpen on the game mound. He was 85-87 and absolutely pounded the zone. Threw 3 of the dirtiest changeups I’ve seen (we had played with a kick-change grip a few weeks prior). I had never seen him throw against hitters. Saw a 15 minute catch play session and his first bullpen in years. I Immediately sent the video to a handful of Division 1 programs that were on his list and gave them the scoop. “He's got zero track record but everything about him looks like a future pro arm”. Responses ranged anywhere from excitement to skepticism, which was 100% to be expected. Fast forward a few months to February... CSUN pulled the trigger before his high school season even started and James went on to post a 1.09 ERA, 83 IP, 60 H, 21 BB, and 83 K in his first year of pitching to help take College Park HS to the NCS championship. So here we are essentially 1 year after Jimmy started pitching full time and he’s up to 94 mph as a true freshman, with a win and a save in his first two collegiate appearances with 7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 13 K. Pretty cool story of a guy going “all in” on something new and different, and a college program taking a chance on a guy that they see future potential in. But the best part of this story and biggest point I want to make is that I firmly believe the reason Jimmy V was the guy that CSUN took a shot on was because of his makeup, work ethic, character, and competitiveness. Jimmy is one of the best “makeup” guys I’ve ever recruited or advised. He is the perfect combination of humble and confident and was the QB/captain of his football team in high school. Jimmy made it easy for CSUN to say “that’s the guy we want to take a chance on.” And yes, it helped that he was 6’4” and a big time multi-sport athlete with a ton of upside. It fires me up to watch Jimmy doing his thing at a very high level. I'm really lost for words. Five months ago, the... Arkansas Baptist College football team was expelled from our practice facility due to unpaid rental fees for maintenance and upkeep. Consequently, spring football practice was suspended and many of our promising student-athletes left, and many of the ballers that we were attempting to recruit, shunned our efforts. Fast forward to the third week of football in September. The Buffaloes are 2-1 with their only loss coming from FCS Houston Christian, in which they were very competitive for a half. I had no expectations for Coach Richard Wilson and his staff this season. After enduring so many challenges, just fielding a team for the 2025 football season would be considered victorious for the program. But these young men have tasted winning, and now they want more. RHP Justin Mitrovich (Elon Baseball) is one mid-major arm... to follow this season. Was excellent as a true Freshman and pitched his way to a 3.68 ERA with 66 Ks to 21 BB across 63.2 IP. Last spring he worked a 5.06 ERA and collected 96 Ks against 30 BB in 80 IP. Mitrovich also showed positive flashes on the Cape this summer and notched 17 Ks in as many IP. Mitrovich has an athletic frame at 6'3" and 200-lbs. Room to fill out physically. Worked exclusively out of the stretch during the spring, but went back to the windup this summer. Works on the 1B side of the rubber, starts his motion with a small side step then gathers himself. Leads into a high lift, and the rest of his operation is up-tempo. Plenty of depth on his long arm stroke, attacks from a three-quarters slot with present arm speed. Some effort. Mitrovich's FB sits in the 91-94 range, but has been up to 96 with some life in the top-1/2 of the zone. Figuring his heater out is going to be the key for him going forward. Threw mostly 4-seamers during the spring, but went 2-seam heavy during the summer and still generated a whiff rate < 20%. A handful of the latter flashed late arm side life, particularly against LHH. Both play well in the top-1/2 of the zone. Needs to iron out the shape and maximize it. Mitrovich's bread-and-butter offerings are his secondaries. His low-80s CH is one of the best of its kind in the college ranks. Averaged over 12 MPH off his FB last spring and is a legit swing-and-miss pitch against both LHH and RHH. Throws it with conviction and will use it in any count. Consistently flashes fade to the arm side as well as ample late tumbling life. True "falling off the table" look. Mitrovich's feel for the pitch is highly advanced, and last spring it generated a 52% whiff rate, 47% chase rate and held opposing hitters to a .198 average. Comfortably a 60. Rounds out his arsenal with a low-to-mid-80s SL that is a particular weapon against righthanded hitters. Gyro look that's not big in shape, but will flash some lateral glove-side life with late bite. Flashed above-average at times last spring and garnered a 45% miss rate. Gets whiffs both in and out of the zone. Mitrovich is a strike-thrower who looks the part of a starter at the next level. INF Gavin Kilen (Tennessee Baseball) will be a key... piece within a loaded Tennessee lineup this season. Earned the starting 2B job as a Freshman and contributed, but broke out last spring to the tune of a .330/.361/.591 slash line with 23 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR and 41 RBIs. Kilen is slightly undersized and has an average build at 5'11 and 180-lbs. Some room to fill out and add ~10 pounds or so. Relaxed, slightly crouched stance in the box with a medium high handset. Minimal load in which his hands drift slightly, leg lift leads into a small stride. Short, compact swing and takes a direct path to contact. Above-average hand speed, it's an operation that's tailored towards spraying line drives all over the yard. Kilen is a hit-over-power profile with an aggressive approach in the box. He has plus bat-to-ball skills and his feel for the barrel is evident. Last spring, Kilen worked a 93% IZ contact rate, including 95% against FB. His aggressive approach and somewhat free-swinger mentality does lead to some chase up against FB and secondaries down, but it hasn't been a hindrance to his production. Kilen pounces on pitches in the zone and steps in the box ready to hit. Would give his hit tool a 55. It's more gap power than it is over the fence power for Kilen, but he did tap into some more impact last season. Part of that is due to getting the ball up in the air more: between '23 and '24 he increased his FB+LD% from 44% to 51%. It will always play as slightly below average (fringy), but he did post a Max EV of 108.5 during the spring and 101.4 this summer. Kilen's HR impact and highest quality of contact comes to the pull side. Vast majority of his XBH power comes on pitches in the bottom-half of the zone, which makes sense given his bat path. Has shown the ability to work from gap-to-gap. Kilen was Louisville's every day SS last spring, but he'll slide over to 2B this season for Tennessee. I actually think that's where he profiles best defensively as a professional, where he has an average arm with some range. After seeing him at SS for a couple of summers, his actions and clock translate better at 2B. Kilen is a day 1 type this July with top-55 overall upside.show more

BLUF: Russia claims Ukraine killed “children” during a 21-22 May 2026 overnight strike on what the AFU identified as a Rubicon unmanned systems training and operations center in Starobilsk, occupied Luhansk. Russian sources report approximately 16 FP-1/FP-2 type loitering munitions were used in the strike. The evidence tells a more nuanced and damning story. On 24 May, Russia's own Ministry of Foreign Affairs published the names of 21 dead with dates of birth ranging from 2003 to 2007. That makes the youngest victims 18 or 19 years old and the oldest, 22 or 23. This is the recruitment and training age for Rubicon personnel and not students at a vocational college. Yet Russia immediately declared these were "children aged 14 to 18." Those two claims cannot both be true, and Russia produced both of them. The narrative was constructed from the first hour. Russian-installed governor Pasechnik, Children's Rights Commissioner Lvova-Belova, TASS, and Russian MFA statements all repeated the 14-to-18 framing within hours of the strike. I was watching the “Will Ronaldo cry” market after Spain beat Portugal, my first thought was *What if someone was at the game, at a seat with a relatively decent view and close to the pitch, with their phone [phone with top end camera capabilities for arguments sake] and remained zoomed in on Ronaldo’s face while he remained on the pitch [yes he turns around but then I thought maybe you could have 2/3 of you at the game, in on it in different areas of the stadium] ****don’t take this market so literally, volumes weren’t massive [$1.4m+], it’s a stretch some of these arguments, but in lay man market terms, you’re creating edge. $ wise, r/r of actually trying the idea, just don’t look at that, rather the new dynamic of “gamblification” specific prediction market markets have created**** As we know, being there is 2-5 seconds quicker than live broadcast, so that’s the edge you’re trying to attack. On top of that, you can also try to “influence” the outcome. There are numerous examples that came to mind, the main theme still remains that you need *access*, but all are possible: 1.
