Our Umani Springs matriarch, Murera, and her daughter Murera,... the first calf born to an orphan from this unit herd of rescued elephants now living in the Kibwezi Forest. It’s nothing short of miraculous that both mum and daughter are here today. Murera arrived into our care so badly injured that vets proposed euthanasia. We saw a slither of hope and pushed back. Back then, we sought Murera’s survival, at that time she was too physically broken for us to be thinking about the prospect of her mothering a next generation. One of my favorite exercises overall: KB or DB... farmer carries. Hands down something I try to incorporate at least 1-2x week. Studies of shown that increased grip strength can be a correlative to increased longevity. Obviously there’s a lot more that goes into it, but carries seem to be overlooked more often than not.
