And it’s most models, not just one showing it.show more

Eastern Europe is set to experience the strongest cold... spell of this winter so far, especially in Ukraine and Belarus. 🥶🧐 Temperatures will drop below −25 °C around the turn of the week, which is 10 to 20 °C lower than is typical for the region: However, the mass of Arctic air will not spread much farther into Europe and will stall over Eastern Europe. The temperature evolution over the next five days is shown in the video below.show more

Even some nice relief in the deep south! Nope, sorry, not you Florida. Meanwhile in NW Canada a big heat dome will hover, with temps 30F + above normal and highs in the 90s near the Tundra.show more

Get ready for a WILD ride across the US... this week! Extreme jet stream means extreme heat in the West, and very early cold in the East! 105+ in the Pacific NW, 30s in the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest, and a real taste of Autumn in the East. No Dice for you Florida, but this extreme jet will at least act as a tropical trouble blocker - like a wall - for at least the next 10 days. Temps will reach 35 degrees plus and minus normal in the west and east respectively.show more

Arctic air will sweep across much of the US... bringing freezing rain & snow There is some uncertainty but snow is possible in cities like Washington and New York In turn, the North Atlantic jet stream strengthens, increasing the chance of deeper low pressure systems into the UKshow more

A mass of Arctic air will become trapped over... eastern Europe. 🥶 In #Ukraine, #Belarus, and western #Russia, temperatures will regularly drop to around −20 °C over the next at least 14 days, while daytime highs will be only around −10 °C (watch the temperature outlook for the next 14 days): 🧐 These are below-average temperatures which, according to current forecasts, could persist throughout the entire month of January.show more

There is a monster leak of Arctic air heading... towards the whole of North America. Many places will experience -20C. These leaks are becoming more frequent as the jet stream weakens. This is a new climate. The stability of the Holocene is over.show more

Norway just shattered heat records. For the first time... ever, temps topped 30°C for 13 straight days — 8°C to 10°C above normal for July. Climate change had a strong to exceptional fingerprint on this unprecedented heat wave. 🧵/1show more

The blocked jet stream pattern with a ridge in... northwest Europe is causing the September heatwave. Meanwhile the trough in the eastern Mediterranean is responsible for severe flooding from storm Daniel. The jet stream pattern is stuck for the next few days.show more

A strong Pacific Jet will blast mild air across... the nation over the next week. Temps will once again jump to 30°+F above normal - a “blowtorch” pattern through next weekend. But we are in a very changeable/ transient pattern, with both a strong Pacific jet and also strong high-latitude blocking. The combo of these two players means, strong shifts - a week to week see-saw pattern. Not just changeable, but volatile, herky-jerky weather whiplash. In about 8-10 days cold should return to the Eastern US. The real question is: can it lock in? Or will the pattern stay transient? Probably transient given the active Pacific jet, but we’ll see.show more

🌡️ Unusually intense May heatwave in Europe This weekend... will bring very high temperatures to southwestern, western, and partly central Europe, locally up to 15 °C above the long-term average. The reason is a persistent high-pressure system over Europe, drawing in hot air from North Africa along its western flank and acting as a so-called heat dome. Air in the center of the high sinks and warms, suppressing cloud formation and allowing more solar radiation to reach the surface. As a result, hot air accumulates near the ground and continues to intensify. Temperatures may exceed 30 °C in western and central Europe, and reach up to 38 °C in southwestern Spain. Numerous daily temperature records are expected to be broken.show more

There is NO END IN SIGHT to this brutally... Cold pattern, with multiple waves of Arctic air likely to continue pouring into the U.S. well into mid-December. The Polar Jet Stream will keep diving south again and again, dragging down round after round of frigid Canadian air. This is the kind of cold we normally see in the heart of January - seeing it this early is highly unusual. Temperatures will run 10, 20, even 30 degrees below normal, and some locations may drop below zero for a prolonged stretch. Wind chills will be even worse. Bottom line: ⬇️ The cold isn’t going anywhere. Bundle up… it’s going to be a long, frigid stretch. 🥶show more
