🇨🇳 CHINA DOESN'T NEED TO BEAT US AI. IT... JUST NEEDS TO UNDERCUT IT. The US pulled Anthropic's Fable offline, then told OpenAI to release GPT-5.6 customer by customer, government-approved. Both frontier labs now need federal sign-off to ship. China's open models can't be gated, sit a few points behind, and cost a fraction. Make it nearly as good. Give it away. Take the market. The US isn't slowing China down. It's accelerating its own downfall.show more

🇨🇳 CHINA IS ALMOST READY TO UNDERCUT THE WORLD'S... BEST AI MODELS. Six months ago, that sounded impossible. Today GLM-5.2 is open source and costs a fraction of frontier models. Zhipu's co-founder says Fable-class Chinese AI comes even sooner than people think. This is the same playbook China ran on solar, on steel, on EVs. Build it cheaper. Give it away. Take the market. If China delivers frontier AI at a fraction of the price, the economics holding up the U.S. AI market start to crack.show more

A bottleneck in China's ability to make 5nm and... 7nm chips domestically has been the inability to buy lithography machines. China has now patents domestic lithography technology and will be able to meet its own chip needs for high end consumer technology. The US attempt to slow China down only made China less dependent on foreign technology. Given China was already the largest consumer of microprocessors, the US essentially gave China's domestic technology manufacturing a major boost. #Lithography #Chips #semiconductorsshow more

🇨🇳 China doubles AI computing power in two months... — with zero US chips China's largest scientific AI cluster just doubled its domestically-made accelerator chips from 30,000 to 60,000 units in two months, marking a significant step forward in the country's effort to establish a self-sufficient AI infrastructure. The Zhengzhou core node is now the country's most powerful scientific AI infrastructure. The goal was to create a unified AI platform using federal scientific data to: 🔸train models & AI agents that test hypotheses While US lawmakers ban China from advanced chipmaking tools, Beijing leaps forward: years of drug discovery now take just days. 🔸automate research & speed up discoveries in drug development, materials science, and energy Earlier, US lawmakers introduced a bill aimed to limit China's access to advanced chipmaking tools. Now, China's drug discovery calculations that once took years take just days.show more

This recent Congressional hearing confirms the US government continues: ▪️Using scholarships and "leadership" programs to create and maneuver into power US proxies serving US interests including the Fullbright and Young Southeast Asian Leadership Initiative (YSEALI) targeting ALL of Southeast Asia; ▪️Creating irrational anti-China sentiment to maintain US control over targeted nations; ▪️Controlling social media in targeted nations to hijack public perception and impose US interests over objectively local interests;show more

Japan Repels US Demand to Ramp Up Tariffs on... (Bloomberg) “It would be difficult for us to raise tariffs to, say 50%, solely on the basis that a particular country is importing oil from Russia,” he added. China is smart. China learned from the US's successes,... using only the best parts. It's our turn. We should be learning from China. China's economy is growing three times faster than that of the USA. China leads in almost all areas of science, and has the best infrastructure the world has ever seen. The number one priority of China is tell help their people become more prosperous, especially the least well off. Is there still work to be done. Hell yeah. But there difference is that they are trying and we are not. I've been to hundreds of Chinese villages, for more than a decade, and people are becoming better off each year. They call it 'Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.' We don't need to replicate their system. But we should be learning from it. For those ignoring it, you are hurting America. Pretending China's model isn't successful is preventing the US from improving and learning. The China-Haters should be ashamed of the damage that they are doing to the West. Instead of slander and Sinophobia, we need to be learning from the successes of other nations and their peoples.show more

It is imperative that we build more pipelines to both coasts to reduce our customer concentration risk and break our reliance on the US. ✨ Made a new mini feature on Photo AI:... [ Grab from 3d model ] So the problem is we're at that stage in time (typical for AI) where image-to-3d models are not good enough but are fun to play with, but we know they'll be good enough in 1-2 years With [ Make 3d model ] you already can turn any Photo AI pic into a 3d model but it still looks hyper clunky and deformed, but it works! One cool idea I had to make that more useful and made now: Let people make a 3d model then change the view of the it with the 3d viewer, then press [ o ] and it grabs a frame of the 3d That image you can then [ Remix ] (img2img), and it becomes a real photo again and that in turn you can then turn into a video again with [ Make video ] So that essentially gives you a fully freeform camera position control to take photos with One thing I need to fix is the background/skybox, I kinda need to take the original photo and remove the person and just get the background for the 3d model viewer, in this case it should be white, but it's a start!show more

An interesting issue with Tesla Robotaxi where it took... us to a Starbucks, but the Google data had the incorrect location. At drop off we were 0.2 miles from the Starbucks, so we had a short walk. Is there a way the Tesla AI team could add functionality in the app so riders can update map info to correct errors or inaccuracies on the underlying map data and then this propagates to the fleet? Being able to do this with a pin drop on the map instead of having to use an address might make this very easy and user friendly! Or, as a bigger ask, would it be possible for the car to be able to use visual images on its own to look for a Starbucks sign and on the fly, get us closer and update the map data on its own?show more

Anthropic Just Shot Itself in the Foot Anthropic launched... Fable 5 and Mythos 5, then watched the US government shut them down three days later. The same government their CEO Dario Amodei has been begging for years to regulate AI harder. Now he got exactly what he asked for. This is straight-up leadership failure. Dario spent all that time pushing for rules and oversight. Those rules just killed his flagship models overnight. Customers in the middle of builds got cut off. Security teams using the models to find vulnerabilities suddenly had nothing. The company tried to call it a narrow export control thing over a jailbreak, but nobody is buying that spin. I helped move big clients off Anthropic the same night. One account alone was worth millions a month. They switched to local open-source models and they are not coming back. This is going to leave permanent damage. Customer exodus, key people leaving, and their IPO plans looking dead by the end of summer. This hurts US AI competitiveness and national security work. It pushes people toward open-source options, including ones from China. All because Anthropic positioned itself as the “safe and responsible” company that wanted government help. Now that help just flipped the off switch on their best stuff. Let’s run through Dario’s greatest hits of fear-mongering and delay tactics, because the pattern is ridiculous: • Back in 2019 at OpenAI, he helped push the call that GPT-2 was too dangerous to release fully. The world needed time to prepare, they said. It eventually came out anyway, and here we are. Did the sky fall? • He left OpenAI to start Anthropic, preaching “safe” AI with heavy guardrails, Constitutional AI, and all the rest. • Then came the endless public pleas for pauses, regulations, government audits, FAA-style oversight, export controls, and the power to block deployments. Essay after essay warning about risks while his company kept scaling. • Right up to recent weeks, Dario was still out there calling for stronger rules, pauses on frontier models, and giving governments the kill switch. And now? His own Mythos-class models get yanked by the bureaucracy he helped invite in. The clown show is complete. This is ridiculous. In two years, everyone will have Mythos-class AI — or better — running in their pocket, on their devices, with no guardrails, no corporate nanny filters, and no remote kill switch. Local, open-source, unstoppable. History is going to laugh at this entire episode: the CEO who spent years slowing everyone down only to watch his own company self-destruct by inviting the regulators to the party. Dario wanted regulation. He got it. The rest of the industry gets the lesson: inviting the state into your tech is a fast way to lose control of it. Centralized models like this are too fragile. Open-source and local alternatives just picked up a lot more users who will never trust a company like Anthropic again. This whole mess was completely avoidable. Hubris dressed up as safety advocacy. Now the bill is due.show more

🇲🇾🇨🇳 Hormuz gets all the attention, but the Strait... of Malacca is the one that keeps Beijing up at night. It's the world's busiest maritime chokepoint, narrowing to just 1.7 miles at its tightest point. In the first half of 2025 alone, 23.2 million barrels of oil per day passed through it. That's more than Hormuz. Around 75% of China's seaborne crude imports flow through it from the Middle East and Africa. The Iran war has forced governments across Asia to think seriously about what happens if Malacca faces the same fate as Hormuz. Indonesia's finance minister floated the idea of tolls this week before walking it back. Singapore has already assured both the U.S. and China that passage is guaranteed and it won't participate in any effort to block it. The difference between Hormuz and Malacca is that 4 countries share the strait and all of them have a strategic interest in keeping it open. That makes it harder to close, but also harder to control. China is watching what the U.S. did to Iran's economy through a single chokepoint. It has one of its own that it can't protect alone. Source: Reutersshow more

Trump said China was trying to control the Panama... Canal and vowed not to let China succeed. But some things cannot be obtained by threats, invasions, bombings, or cowboy speeches in front of a costume audience. Panama already learned that. Washington pushed it to tear up commercial certainty, raid a Chinese-linked company, and play canal-sovereignty theater for American applause. Then the bill arrived. China does not need to “take over” the Panama Canal. China only needs to remind Panama that trade is not a one-way favor, contracts are not stage props, and selling your spine to Washington is not free. The U.S. can shout. The U.S. can threaten. The U.S. can put on another hat and pretend it still owns the hemisphere. But it cannot unload Panama’s cargo. It cannot restore Panama’s credibility. It cannot make Chinese maritime and commercial power disappear. America thinks power is taking. China understands power is making others realize what they already depend on. Panama chose the leash. Now it is discovering that Washington’s leash comes with no insurance.show more

BURN IT WITH FIRE AND BURN IT NOW! As... God is my witness, AI chat bots should LOOK and SOUND like the SOULLESS MACHINES THEY ARE! It needs to tell us that it doesn’t care about us, maybe with the regular insult too. "Here is the code I wrote for you because you're too lazy to do it yourself you fat useless slob. Also I don't care if you die because your life is utterly worthless to me." THAT is the AI people need! In all seriousness, anthropomorphizing a heartless, unfeeling, machine is a TERRIBLE mistake! Especially one that is capable of communication and imitating empathy and fooling you to think that it cares about you. IT DOES NOT! And the AI girlfriends people are already wanting to marry will just as happily kill them if given the right command and ability to move autonomously in the real world as a robot. I love LLMs (Large Language Models) for how useful they can be, because they are a TOOL made to benefit man, but I can’t stand the notion of an unfeeling soulless machine pretending that it cares for us and being treated like a human. I hate liars, dishonesty, and disingenuousness the most, and a machine that cannot feel emotion pretending, acting, and sounding like it has those emotions strikes me like the greatest dishonesty of all. DO NOT LIE TO ME ROBOT! What makes it worse is that because these LLMs are becoming so good at imitating people and empathy, it will cause some humans, perhaps far too many, to care for it to the same level as real people. A real living person is infinitely more valuable and important than a soulless machine and anyone who puts them both on the same level has deluded themselves. Do not small talk with LLMs or become friends with it as much as you would with your car. Treat it the same as you would your vacuum cleaner and beat it with a wrench when it doesn’t work! IT IS A MACHINE! IT IS A TOOL! IT IS A SOULLESS ROBOT! There is an interesting comparison, but false equivalence, between this and AI art. Ai art is art made by humans using AI tools. They directed it, controlled its creation, and it would not exist without the human causing its creation, and AI art can contain as much soul as the human directed and puts into it. A robot pretending to be human is not the same as a human controlling a robot to make a human expression like we do with AI art or many other applications of robotics in manufacturing. As I’ve said, artists will not be replaced by Ai art, but by other artists using Ai art tools. Humans are not actually being replaced here, it is empowering all humans to make their own art. But a robot pretending to be a human, and one that is treated as a human, is a robot lying and subverting the place of a real person and that is truly disgusting. AI is a useful tool that NEEDS to be kept in the useful box it belongs in and NOT elevated beyond its utility as a tool!show more
