DOM3 is made from HTML, CSS and Javascript, closer... to a document than a canvas. It's a strange contemporary material that shapes much of our digital lives. The rhythm of endless creation and deletion in DOM3 is a self-driving version of what happens when you browse the web. "The Document Object Model (DOM) connects web pages to scripts or programming languages by representing the structure of a document—such as the HTML representing a web page—in memory." A html element, and a rectangle on a canvas, are not the same thing. It's a different material. Even if it all ends up controlling the same pixels, the process is different. The html element kind of actually exists, in this abstract context of a document object model. And in memory, in the moment. If it was possible to measure its weight, it would be heavier than a pixel on a canvas.show more

HTML enters 3D! Or vice versa? With the new... HTML in Canvas by WICG, we can finally put native DOM elements directly into WebGL/WebGPU scenes. It is experimental for now, but the possibilities for 3D interfaces and special effects are huge. This demo was built using Three.js and Omma AI (tool by Spline ) It’s a fun new way to explore what the web can do! Are you interested in seeing the demo?show more

One of my favorite details of Sonner: By default... the toast disappears after 4 seconds unless you hover over it. But what if a toast is triggered and the user switches to a different tab? 4 seconds would pass and the toast would never be seen. That’s why there’s a `useIsDocumentHidden` hook that checks if the document (tab) is hidden, and if so, it will pause the timer. This can be done with the "visibilitychange" event listener on the document. A small detail that improves the experience.show more

The worst take about the web is that you... should not use JS/React/etc because HTML alone is good enough. It's an 'austerity mind virus' that has captured even some smart engineers. The idea that the web is for 'documents' and if it stays in its own little box like 1995 it's going to somehow be better for the world. This is how we ended up with Safari having the most obnoxious limitations, including a back/forward navigation gesture that makes the web feel like a horrendous 'digital book' of sorts. No, the web is also for dynamic, rich, interactive applications. JS is a key ingredient in the recipe, otherwise every click and interaction will have to hit a server, feel slow, and we'll always be a second class citizen. The web's developer freedom & better deployment model will win in the end, but it can't come at the expense of quality.show more

This wasn't possible until now. The tech literally didn't... exist. html-in-canvas lets shaders read and redraw your real DOM in real time, while text stays selectable and links stay clickable. Everyone else has demos. This is a full library. A new dimension for the web. Literally.show more

The nascent HTML-in-Canvas API is exciting to me not... for flashy effects, but because it extends the semantics that the DOM can (tractably) represent — tiny example: it's possible to show an element in multiple places, cheaply, under arbitrary transforms.show more

Fine, I'll bite. Paper will never, ever, eat Figma's... lunch. Not Paper, not Claude Design, not Google Stitch, not V0, bolt, lovable, base44 or any of the HTML/CSS-based canvas. Why? The number one reason: Performance. Paper struggles at 2-5K elements of plain rectangles For comparison, in the attached video: a small, early-stage exploration canvas with 13K elements. Real-world projects are tens of thousands sometimes hundreds of thousands of elements. Why do you think Figma has a hyper-optimized webGL rendering engine? It would've been way easier to have an HTML/CSS-based canvas if that was feasible. Figma's money comes from tens of thousands of organizations where *at the very minimum* need to support these canvas sizes. Does it hurt Figma that many individuals and small teams are switching to other tools? arguable. Does Paper have better *MCP support* than Figma*? 1000 percent. Not even close. but MCP support != better overall or even an option for most. I'm not saying Figma's lunch won't be eaten. I have a huge horse in that game, betting it will be. I'm saying *HTML/CSS-based canvases, specifically* won't.show more

This is not a border dispute. It is a... sermon. A Hamas leader on a Gaza stage tells seven million Palestinians abroad to stop warming up. There are Jews everywhere, he says. Attack every Jew on Earth. Slaughter them. Kill them. With Allah’s help. The crowd is not a war room. It is a public. Hamas did not invent that sentence. Hamas is but one franchise of it. Islamic Jihad says the same thing with a different logo. Hezbollah wraps it in Khomeini and the language of “the Zionist entity.” The Houthis put “death to Israel, curse the Jews” on a flag and call it governance. The regime in Tehran funds the network and calls the Jewish state a tumor. Different uniforms. Same theology. For them, Jewish sovereignty is an insult to Allah, and Jewish lives outside the land are not off-limits. That is why “from the river to the sea” is not a housing policy, and why October 7 was not an accident of occupation. The target list in this clip is not a soldier at a checkpoint. It is Jews as such, wherever they are. Once the enemy is a people, not a government, there is no ceasefire that satisfies the idea. There is only a pause. Western coverage keeps shrinking this to one militia and one strip of coast because a regional ideology is harder to manage than a “peace process.” Factions are useful that way. They let you condemn Hamas on Tuesday and treat Hezbollah as Lebanese politics on Wednesday and the Houthis as a shipping problem on Thursday. The preacher does not bother with those folders. He names the Jews and asks the diaspora to start. If you want to understand the war, start with what they say when they are not fundraising in English. The map they want is not two states. It is a world with fewer Jews in it, sanctified as duty. Hamas is the local office. The ideology is the corporation.show more

🚨Gemini 3.6 Flash is trash I tested it on... a 3D Golden Gate Bridge, and the results were awful. • I had to re-prompt it three times because it repeatedly ignored the instructions. • First attempt, instead of creating the requested .html file, it first tried to build the experience inside the Gemini app using simulations. • Then second attempt it started placing images from the web into the chat rather than actually producing the file. • Even after getting it to complete the task, the final output was dramatically worse than Gemini 3.1 Pro, which is 5 months old and now not even a top 10 model on leaderboards. This feels like a regression from Gemini 3.5 Flash and honestly, it is one of the weakest models I have tested in the past few months.
