Somalians in Minnesota have been in the news a... lot. As someone who has lived in Minnesota my whole life I want to share my perspective. First we need to separate groups. A lot of people are saying things like we should deport all Somalians. That is wrong. Many Somalians were born here or moved here decades ago and they consider themselves American first. They raise families here, contribute to their communities, and see this country as home. Treating them as anything less than American is wrong. With that said there is a different group of Somalians that people in Minnesota talk about privately but are afraid to say out loud. Starting in the late 2000s and continuing since then, large numbers of Somalians were imported here from Somalia who do not see themselves as American, they identify as Somalian only. Many do not speak English, many do not work, and many do not support American law and norms. People who live in Minneapolis or around have seen this. This group has not been a net positive economically, socially, or culturally. They have also gained a large amount of political power in a short period of time. This is why you see Minneapolis politicians speaking Somalian instead of English, and why the Minnesota flag was changed to look almost identical to the Somalian flag. I’m still here because this was the hardest fan... project we’ve faced in these six months. My patience and leadership were tested like never before to the point that I almost gave up in the middle of the preparation. There were nights I whispered to myself, “This will be my last.” I felt so pressured that sometimes I just wanted to hide and run away. On top of it all, I was carrying my own personal struggles, which made every step heavier. We took risks in almost every decision we made during this project. There were times when all we could say was, “Naniniwala kami sa Cheffies.” From tickets and props to the fan project and the fanzone everything was about risk and trust. Trusting the Cheffies that they would show up. Trusting the sponsors that they were only waiting for us to open our plan. Trusting Dustin and Bianca that they would see and hear our efforts. And above all, trusting each other as admins that no matter what happens, we would not give up on this. But it wasn’t just about risks. It was about sacrifices the sleepless nights, the drained wallets, the heavy emotions, and the constant balancing act between work life and fandom life. It was about choosing to fight even when we were tired, choosing to stay even when walking away seemed easier. Every small victory mattered, and every breakdown taught us something new. Looking back at these six months, I realized it’s not only about the events, the projects, or the milestones. It’s about the people who stood by me when I thought I couldn’t go on. The people I met along the way who turned into a second family. The laughter in between the stress, the comfort in the middle of the tears, and the bonds that were built in both the best and worst days. So, my opinion on what the Antarctic (Antarctica) Anomaly... is that it's a type of frequency technology. It must be way more powerful than HAARP, as many have claimed it to be, because we would see these anomalies at other HAARP sites, and we don't, not like this. With that said, and I'm very much trying to avoid letting what I want it to be not play a part here, I think it is a technology that is being used either off the coast of Antarctica itself or Bouvet Island. A third possibility is an area just to the northwest of the island that looks odd. It's possible it is a sonar scan from a ship, but why in that remote location? The Sabotaging Practice of Over Supply and Sameness in... the NFT Space. The current zeitgeist of the NFT space is that the same artists are doing the same kind of work five times a year, with project after project leaving a trail of disappointment and discontent among collectors and all of us watching in disbelief as huge resources are extracted from the space over work that feels like it could be left as an "artist study." I understand that you can do what you want with your money as collectors, but we are killing the whole space with this incestuous practice. No artist is that prolific to be able to do 5 collections of 100+ pieces each every year and actually deliver innovation and some kind of creative evolution. Of course, they can pretend play that the work has something new, but there is no precedent nor proof that that has ever happened in the speed that it happens in the NFT space. Again, people are free to through away their resources on whatever they want but with this way of doing things, we more and more are going to start seeing the consequences. Oh! Let's start with the loss of belief in the NFT space as somewhere where emerging artists can come and find support for their experiments. Completely agree with Auron MacIntyre’s take here about the... importance of reading original sources (the context is George Washington’s Farewell Address, and how reading that and other pre-1945 sources helps you see how different the world was, and how deceived many of us are about what “American values” are). But I would take it a step further: This focus on original sources is precisely what led me away from protestantism, and to the Catholic Church. I discovered “something very radical and modern” (as Auron said) had happened in the 16th century, representing a huge departure from the fullness of Christian truth and fellowship. I discovered the Church Fathers, and the Saints who succeeded them, all of them testifying to a radically different faith and Church than I been taught to believe in. I discovered protestantism was an aberration with no firm basis in history or Christian thought, and that I had unwittingly been on the side that had helped destroy Christian civilization, ironically in the name of Christ. Just like many people today are destroying America in the name of “American values.” When you know our roots, you know that claim is often bunk. The same with the Church and the protestant sects, which is why so many protestants who take the plunge end up Catholic.show more
