Getting a bunch of questions about this! It's a... full gpu rendering pipeline with built in shader editor for Rive, which can interleave 2D + 3D. Think WebGPU (minus compute, for now) that runs anywhere, not just the browser. You can implement anything at all. Cell shading. Background blurs. Deformation effects. And yes, even Rive vector components as textures. Shaders are precompiled and ship with your .riv. Minimal runtime size impact. Still WIP.show more

I fixed the most upvoted React Aria issue of... all time: in the next release, you can enter "invalid" dates like February 31st, and they'll be constrained on blur instead of as you type. This is helpful for transient states, e.g. editing the day before the month. It also enabled entering other temporary values like leading zeros. As you can see in the video, previously if the month was February you couldn't change the day to anything above 28. You'd first have to change the month and then go back to the day. Now the temporary invalid state is allowed. This might seem like such a simple issue, but it was actually pretty complicated to fix. It required entirely changing the way the state is stored. JS Date and Intl.DateTimeFormat cannot store or format dates that don't exist, so we had to reimplement it from scratch. Now we use Intl.DateTimeFormat to get the order of the fields for each locale, but format the value of each segment individually with Intl.NumberFormat. Lots of edge cases to handle as well, like daylight saving time, 12/24 hour time, different calendar and numbering systems, etc. Really glad to finally fix this one though!show more

⚔️ Kingdom Come Deliverance first impressions ⚔️ Loving it... so far, basically a medieval detective simulator that really doesn't care that you are the main character. And I'm all here for it. ▪️The WORLD is the real star of the show here and even though it's got plenty of jank and lots of copy and paste NPC faces, it just feels so IMMERSIVE. Even the UI just transports me to the times with a bright colourful medieval art style. ▪️The MUSIC I love, absolutely sells the world and basically ASMR as you trot around on your horse through the world. ▪️THE Combat is a real interesting one, it's got quite the learning curve which I actually LIKE, it definitely has some jank to it as well but I really appreciate the attempt at an original and nuanced combat system. (Having to stop your bleeding with bandages is really cool) ▪️The Story has gripped me (19 hours in so far) And while it seems a simple revenge story on the face of it, I think the story is more about Henry making his way through the world after the horrors of Skallitz. The writing quality is top notch as well as the quest design also. ▪️The CHARACTERS are amazing and the humour is top notch. I'm not sure the last time I laughed so much at a game. Henry is great and so well voiced by Tom McKay This really feels like Warhorse Studios have put a lot of love and work into making an authentic medieval world and as a bit of a medieval nerd I can't get enough of this game. A True RPG as well by all accounts, the game really makes me think hard about how to approach situations. Also I can't wait to get to KCD2.show more

Andy Burnham has just signalled a major push to... make more welfare benefits conditional. In his interview with Laura Kuenssberg, the Prime Minister was asked directly: “Specifically, as your plans stand, do they include removing benefits from anyone or reducing benefits for anyone?” Burnham replied: “It’s about changing the nature of the support and making some of the support conditional upon people taking opportunities that are presented in front of them.” He’s talking about reforming the system so that support is tied to engaging with available jobs, training or other opportunities, not simply handed out with no strings attached. The welfare bill is costing an absolute fortune and is completely unsustainable. Starmer tried to reform it and it blew up in his face. Burnham is now having a go, let’s hope he actually delivers meaningful change this time. If they really want public support, they should start by stopping foreign nationals from receiving benefits altogether. That single move would have huge backing across the country because far too many people can see the system is being abused. Time for real reform.show more

Just weeks ago I considered this to be a... map of Superchargers. The foundation that made EV’s a going concern for the first time. But it’s not. These dots represent fully permitted and built power stations in an era where every AI player is trying to figure out how to get power for compute. This is the largest electrical power moat I’ve ever seen that can fully supply current and future charging needs while collecting and storing cheaper power during off-peak to supply an AI revolution. Elon doesn’t care who knows anymore. 2nd place is… crumbs. AWS was built from excess server space needed during peak demand. Now it’s bigger and more valuable than the core Amazon retail business. Tesla is about to drop a hardware smackdown right in the face of software engineers. AI prototypes are easy. Scaling is hard. If only Tesla had a factory pouring out millions of chips each year that are underutilized 95% of the time. Each with their own battery storage. Imagine that. Tesla could call them ‘cars’. And that power moat? It’s all fully upgradable. It’s primed to be tripled. Only a handful of Tesla charging stations currently have solar and/or Megapacks. For 14 years Tesla has permitted and built the gas stations of the future around the world. Everyone said it would fail. All of them were wrong. And now Tesla is in a process of creating a possible 10x value stamp on those stations that should have never been built. It makes you wonder, When a vehicle now leaves the Tesla factory; how do we even begin to calculate the economic production that it will generate during its lifetime? Sharing some more UI previews for Superlogical, this time... the "tab peek." If you three-finger swipe down, you can "peek" at the other session tabs. These are live-updating, metal-rendered previews including splits. If you keep dragging, you enter a "mission control" style mode. This is one of those UI patterns that once you get used to, you mindlessly find yourself doing it ALL THE TIME. It's a great way to quickly take a look at everything thats going on. You aren't reading the mini text of course, but the shape of it tells you a lot about where things are. The peek pushes the terminal down off screen, it doesn't resize it, so it doesn't force any weird reflow or anything either. There's a lot more to talk about, especially about how this interacts with how we expose what needs attention so you can easily find the terminals/sessions/etc. that require your attention. Of course, you'll be able to drive this with the keyboard too. :) As always, a disclaimer: this is all early work subject to change, just trying to share some of what we're building in public.
