Why is my baby screaming? The answer may just... be: Because they can. As newborns, babies rely heavily on a limited vocal repertoire of cries, coos, and gurgles. But as they begin approaching six months, they begin to experiment with a whole new array of sounds. We call this vocal play. Put simply, it’s a process through which infants experiment with their voices (and mouths) and begin learning to mimic many of the component sounds that will later make up their formal speech. This includes most any sound that can be made with the mouth, from screams, to growls, to blowing raspberries. Check out this little guy as he delights in his newly discovered screech. He’s not in distress, as his broad smile lets us know. Instead he’s just trying out the cool new trick he can do with his mouth. How long should my baby use a pacifier? I... get this question a lot and it’s a tough one - both because there isn’t a single correct answer and because (like feeding and sleep) the topic brings out lots of strong opinions. But if you ask me, the family in this video has the right idea. Infants are born with a strong sucking reflex and pacifiers can help them to soothe and sleep. There’s even some evidence to suggest that sleeping with pacifiers might reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). In short: for babies (up to a year), I’m a big fan. But it’s not uncommon to see children with pacifiers well into toddlerhood, and in some cases, even beyond. And here I’d raise some important cautions. Children who rely heavily on pacifiers may be more prone to middle ear infections. And dentists note that prolonged pacifier use can affect your child’s teeth and create bite issues. Perhaps most importantly is their potential to impact expressive language development. Your child’s ability to speak is an important one. After a point, language shapes not only the content of our thinking, but the very structure of our cognition. By otherwise occupying the mouth over long periods of time, pacifiers may slow language development by limiting opportunities for expression. Speaking with a pacifier in the mouth can also lead to distortion of speech sounds (even when they aren’t in the mouth). All told, I’m an advocate for beginning to wean off of pacifiers at around a year of age - which is why this video spoke to me. We see an infant appropriately using one and big sister demonstrating her expressive language, her mouth unencumbered and free to chatter away happily. The LIV Golf League has made major changes to... the format of the Team Championship, including a preliminary round to be played on Wednesday between teams ranked 12 and 13 in the season long standings. There will also be no byes for top seeded teams. The losing team from the preliminary round will be fully eliminated and will take no further part in the competition. On Friday, there will be 6 quarter finals matches, where all 12 remaining teams will face off in head to head match play. The captains of the top seeded teams have the opportunity to choose their opponents as in previous years. The format is also the same, with 2 singles matches and 1 foursomes match, with 2 points needed to advance. On Saturday, all 12 teams will be divided into 2 brackets. The Championship Bracket, with the winning teams from Friday, and the Rankings Bracket, with the 6 teams who lost. Once again, seeded team captains can select who they play against and the format remains 2 singles matches and 1 foursomes. On Sunday, a champion will be decided and they revert back to the standard team format of the regular season, individual strokeplay with all 4 scores counting towards the team total. The 3 winning teams from the Championship Bracket will face off for the championship rings and the remaining 9 teams will play in their Rankings Brackets for minor places. Ripper GC, captained by Cam Smith will be looking to defend the title they won last season. The previous winners are Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC and Dustin Johnson’s 4 Aces GC. The 2025 Team Championship will be held at The Cardinal at St John’s Resort in Michigan on August 20th-24th.show more

** Mega Drive Color Transparency - Part 3 **... Blast Processing on the 68k kicks into high gear in this vid processing 5120 pixels per frame via brute force to create something eeerily cool. Improvements since part 2: - Added masking to remove the transparent pixels outside the ghost (Layer A), - Added 2 more transparent shades , Red & Blue transparent shades for mouth and back shading. - Added an outline layer - solid black and white for solid details such as eyes and mouth outline. - Seperated the Shadow & Highlight ghost , we have a really cool effect now with dual layer transparency occuring !!! - one ghost on top of another ghost both see through !!! We still have cpu left for more logic within 60 FPS so a boss scene with this technique will definately be on the cards in Lufthoheit, as with all these tech demos we'll use the tech in an actual game also !!
