The previously unnamed Tropical Storm in the shallow Malacca... Strait has since been given the name Senyar. The system made landfall over the city of Langsa in Aceh, Indonesia at a 50 mph (80 kph), 996 mbar peak intensity. But Senyar isn’t done. The storm has now RE-EMERGED into the Malacca Strait and is forecast to soon make a second landfall, this one in Malaysia. While Senyar won’t be very strong (potentially only ~40 mph), a Malaysian landfall by a bonafide tropical cyclone is historically rare, as few storms on record have formed this close to the equator (due to the weakness of the Coriolis Effect here).show more

I am almost sure that #Tampa, #Florida will be... spared the worst of #hurricane #Milton and it appears very likely the storm may make landfall and a direct hit on #FortMyers. For most of the night Milton has been hugging the lowest level on National Hurricane Center's projected path (cone) or has wandered south of it a few times. Since then it has been pretty much following the lowest point of the cone right into Fort Myers. There is still a possibility it may track slightly south of there, just north of #Naples.show more

This passenger on an airplane was freaking out due... to severe tooth aches. He was said to have been very red in the face, in panic due to the pain, very loud outbursts, which created an issue for the airlines. They declared an emergency and landed the flight early, and medical staff removed him once they landed. Should there be a punishment for this, since he more than likely has been dealing with this pain before getting on the flight, not to mention being the cause for delay for the other passengers?show more

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day feature the most impressive... severe thunderstorm setup I’ve seen along the California coastline in at least a decade. The first round of isolated severe thunderstorms will come ashore tonight, bringing the threat of a isolated tornado and severe wind gusts over 60 mph from the Central Coast up to Humboldt County. The severe weather threat then expands into the Central Valley during the afternoon, California’s tornado alley, with the potential for isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and even large hail. The threat then shifts south into Southern California tomorrow, where isolated severe wind gusts and a brief tornado will be possible. However, Christmas Eve into Christmas morning features the most potent severe weather environment of the week and could lead to a severe thunderstorm outbreak along the coastline from the Central Coast up to the North Coast. The combination of strong low-level and deep-layer shear with sufficient instability is rarely seen in this part of the world. I seriously cannot recall seeing Significant Tornado Parameter (STP) values exceed 3 along the California coastline. The peak threat window appears to be from 10 PM Thursday to 8 AM Friday. It would not be out of the question to see a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued Christmas Eve night with the potential for a couple tornadoes and scattered severe wind gusts. I also believe this may be the first time on record that San Francisco has been placed under a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms in the Day 1–3 NWS Storm Prediction Center Convective Outlooks.show more

A snow-moving occluded front strengthened by a 130-knot plus westerly jet stream flowing across the Pacific will be centered over the Central Coast tonight into Friday. This condition will create an Atmospheric River (AR) that will produce moderate gale-force to fresh gale-force (32 to 46 mph with gusts to 55 mph) southerly winds and continuous moderate to heavy rain over a 24-hour period. NOAA’s HRRR (High Resolution Rapid Refresh) model indicates between 3 and 5 inches of rain for most of the coastal and inland valleys; however, orographic enhancement due to the southerly gales will produce between 5 and 10 increase of rain along many of the southerly facing slopes, such as portions of the Cuesta Grade. The Santa Lucia Mountains above Morro Bay, Cayucas, Cambria, San Simeon, and Big Sur could see over 15 inches of rainfall. Scattered rain showers will develop on Saturday, ending on Sunday into Monday. Another storm system is forecast to produce additional rain on Tuesday into Wednesday.
