The latest loophole that third-party file manager apps were... using to get access to files and folders under /Android/data and /Android/obb has been patched. As part of Android 11's Scoped Storage restrictions, apps that use the Storage Access Framework (SAF) to launch the documents picker are not supposed to be able to get access to files and folders under the /Android/data or /Android/obb directories. However, third-party file managers figured out that if they set the initial directory when launching the documents picker to either /Android/data or /Android/obb, the documents picker lets the user grant the app full access to directories. This loophole was patched in Android 13, but then another loophole was discovered that got around this. Since Android 13 only blocked apps from setting /Android/data or /Android/obb as the initial directory when launching the documents picker, it was quickly discovered that you could set the initial directory to one of the subdirectories under /Android/data or /Android/obb, thus the user could grant access to individual subdirectories one-by-one. However, this latest loophole was patched with a recent Google Play System Update. The latest version of the DocumentsUI app, the Project Mainline module that comprises the documents picker, now restricts the initial location for the ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT/_TREE intent so that apps cannot request the initial location to be one of /Android/data, /Android/sandbox, /Android/obb, or one of their subdirectories. If the DocumentsUI app (AKA 'Files' app) on your device is on version 14-10492947 (version code 340916000), then this loophole is patched.show more

Dear X Design Who thought replacing the native Android... gallery with the Google Photos media picker was a good idea? 🤦♂️ On Galaxy phones, I expect the app to open Samsung Gallery, not Google Photos. Now I have to: ❌ Dig through folders every time ❌ Re-select the same folder for every new attachment ❌ Spend more time finding photos than actually posting This is a massive UX downgrade. Android isn't one-size-fits-all. Respect OEM gallery apps and use the native media picker instead. Samsung Members gets this right. I've attached a video showing the difference. Agree? Repost so the X team sees this. 👇🏻show more

iOS vs. Android app quality difference. I don’t get... why devs discriminate even in little things like this. - On WhatsApp for iOS, you can swipe left on a message to quickly see delivered, read, and voice message heard status. Very useful in group chats. - On WhatsApp for Android you have to tap and hold the message, select 3-dots, then select Info to see the same thing. I get it when devs can’t put iOS’s design language or animation quality in their Android apps, but things like these should be pretty easy to implement. Maybe it’s because they thought this gesture might interfere with Android’s back gesture, but I believe there’s a clear distinction between swiping from the edge and swiping in the middle of a message.show more

OpenClaw Releases iOS and Android Companion Node Apps That... Connect a Phone to a Self-Hosted AI Agent Gateway Most "AI assistant" apps are a chatbot in a sandbox, calling someone else's API. OpenClaw's iOS and Android apps draw a very clear line away from that model. They're companion nodes, not standalone apps. Each phone pairs to a self-hosted OpenClaw Gateway over a WebSocket (default port 18789) with role: "node". The Gateway — the single control plane for sessions, routing, channels, and events — runs on macOS, Linux, or Windows (WSL2). The phone gives the agent a body: camera, location, voice, notifications, and a live Canvas. Here's what's actually interesting: → The assistant runs on your machine — chat messages land on the Gateway, never on the phone → Nodes expose a command surface (canvas., camera., device., notifications., system.*) through node.invoke → Privacy-heavy commands like camera.snap and screen.record stay off until you allowlist them via gateway.nodes.allowCommands → Camera and screen capture run foreground-only; pairing needs explicit approval (openclaw devices approve) → Both store listings declare no data collection; ws:// is LAN-only, remote needs a wss:// TLS endpoint via Tailscale Full analysis: Android app: iOS App: OpenClaw🦞show more

Samsung just added AirDrop support to Quick Share on... the Galaxy S26. Google already did this on Pixel 10 last year. Now Samsung is doing it too. So Android and iPhone can now share files with each other natively. No apps. No cables. Rolling out from today. Korea gets it first. Then North America, Europe, Japan, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Only S26 series for now. More devices later. You have to turn it on manually in Quick Share settings though. Not on by default. Is this the feature that finally makes file sharing between Android and iPhone less painful?show more

THIS FEELS ILLEGAL AND I LOVE IT A GitHub... repo with 61,030 stars defeats Google's Play Integrity check. GPL-licensed and last updated eight days ago. The repo is called Magisk. It roots your Android phone and hides root from banking apps. It runs Netflix on a phone the Play Store says is uncertified. Also, passes the same fraud detection Google built to stop it. Here is the part nobody is talking about. ↳ The man who built it is John Wu. ↳ He has been maintaining Magisk for nine years. Since November 2023 he has been a Senior Software Engineer at Google. On the Android Platform Security team. The exact team that builds Play Integrity. Google hired the person who defeats their root detection. He still ships the tool that defeats it. The repo is still online after nine years, hasn’t been taken down, and you should not install it because your phone is supposed to belong to Google.show more

This is the fastest way I’ve found to send... huge files without compression across the world. It’s called Blip. A file transfer app that lets you send massive files directly from your device to someone else’s. No cloud upload first. No waiting for a download link. No file size panic. No video quality getting destroyed. No “upgrade your storage” nonsense. Just pick the file and send it. What it can do: • Send files of any size • Send entire folders • Resume interrupted transfers • Keep original quality • Work across long distances • Transfer between desktop and mobile • Use end-to-end encrypted transfers • Run on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad, and Android The wild part: Blip says it can handle files up to 99TB. Because it is not trying to be Dropbox. It does not make you upload the file to a cloud drive first, then force the other person to download it later. The receiver starts getting the file while you are still sending it. WeTransfer makes you upload. AirDrop only works nearby. Cloud drives turn sharing into storage management. Blip just sends the file. This is the file transfer app creators should have had years ago. Website:show more

DarkFi superapp v0.3-alpha is here, “anon”. DarkIRC chat is... live. Payments, DAO and trading coming as addons. One native application to rule them all. This is the crypto infrastructure you were promised. These are the user-facing apps OGs dreamed of. Why the superapp matters: Anonymous digital spaces are the pre-condition for real-world autonomy in 2025. When developers can build without exposure, when users can coordinate without surveillance, when governance happens in zero-knowledge - then you create a space for experimentation and growth. Anonymous DAOs make decisions without revealing voter identities or treasury contents. Anonymous communication enables collaboration across jurisdictions without compromising participants. This is the infrastructure for sovereignty. DarkFi built one application that runs identically on Linux, Android, Mac and Windows. Developers write once, deploy everywhere with zero exposure. Users get the same experience on every device. Third-party builders get full API access without asking permission. Software runs locally. What's in v0.3: - Android text input fixed. - Graphics rendering corrected to eliminate glitching. - Battery consumption reduced on mobile. - UI improvements with animated background. - Second stabilization release since 0.2-alpha (v0.4 coming soon with additional features). Let there be Dark!show more

An interesting issue with Robotaxi where it took us... to a Starbucks, but the Google data had the incorrect location. At drop off we were 0.2 miles from the Starbucks, so we had a short walk. Is there a way the Tesla AI team could add functionality in the app so riders can update map info to correct errors or inaccuracies on the underlying map data and then this propagates to the fleet? Being able to do this with a pin drop on the map instead of having to use an address might make this very easy and user friendly! Or, as a bigger ask, would it be possible for the car to be able to use visual images on its own to look for a Starbucks sign and on the fly, get us closer and update the map data on its own?show more
