Today he gets to face a Suns defense that is missing one of their big bodies in Mark Williams and another one of their biggest enforcers in Dillon Brooks, while also being on the 2nd leg of a B2B. Dejounte just returned from a lengthy recovery of an Achilles Tear 4 games ago but had 13 months of recovery. We have also hammered the idea of the Lakers being a horrendous transition defense this season, and we know Ja Morant is at his most fun when he gets out in transition. Expect some easy assists on those plays here. Now as far as the Lakers, they don't hide their strategy of "you are either shooting or passing but you are not driving." While that last matchup was the one that started the drama with his comments about the coaches chewing him out mid-game, it did look like he was figuring out how to read it in the 2nd half. The Grizzlies would put Ja Morant on the wing in an ISO position, with everyone cleared out to the other side. The Lakers would have the big show EARLY help on the near side block. Ja Morant would then read the help of the big man and the weakside corner If the big and corner were helping early, he would drive and find the corner. If the big was helping and the corner wasn't, he would find the big on the opposite block. If the big AND the corner were waiting for him to drive before showing help, he would force the switch onto a lesser defender and put the Lakers into a position where they had to show help. And as far as the rebounding, Ja Morant's defensive role is simple: When there is a corner camper, matchup with the corner camper. With no Reaves, and not matching up on Luka/Lebron, we know this will be the case and should keep him in uncontested weakside rebounding position on any deep shot attempts. I have not seen enough about the decision from... Mike Vrabel and Tim Kelly to go for 2 down by 8 last night. Here’s why I loved it: 1) NFL teams this season have been successful on 55% of two-point conversion attempts. The odds were in the Titans’ favor. 2) Will Levis was dealing in the 2nd half. 3) Titans still had all three timeouts and the two-minute warning. 4) Miami struggled to move the ball on offense all night. Their three scoring drives went for 12, 7, and 59 yards. 5) If successful on the two-point conversion, a stop on defense and a TD wins the game. If unsuccessful, you can still send it to OT. 6) Titans offense marched down the field, scored the TD to make it a one possession game and essentially told Miami, “we are going for two because we know you cannot stop us right now.” The odds are in your favor. It’s a good mathematical decision. You want to psych out an opposing offense? Give them the ball knowing they need to run the clock out, or you are going to have a chance to WIN the game, not send it to overtime. They saw what your offense just did to their defense. They saw your QB on the sideline screaming and hyping everyone up. Cutting the lead to six put WAY more pressure on the Dolphins offense. You want to hype up your defense? Put them back on the field knowing your offense just did their job. Put them back on the field knowing a stop and a TD wins it. At that point, they aren’t in the mindset of “we need a stop to have a chance to go to OT.” They are thinking, “let’s go out here, get a stop, and give our offense a chance to WIN.” There’s a fundamental difference in playing to WIN and playing NOT to LOSE. This was a decision by a coaching staff that was playing to WIN. Brilliant game by Vrabel and Kelly. Brilliant execution late in the game by the offense and the defense. This is a nice bit of insight from England's... World Cup camp. At the top level of the game, this is how a player's physical performance data is visualised post-match and used to inform their recovery on MD+1. From what they eat to refuel, to the recovery protocols they choose from in terms of a selection menu: yoga and meditation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, strength training in the gym, etc. And every player produces different datasets so recovery can be individualised. Not every team has the budget for this sort of thing, but the fundamentals are the same - how does your performance data inform what you do next, to prepare for the next training session or game.show more

This is one of the nicest things about China:... whatever happens to you, you can always count on people's solidarity. This is what just happened to us. We wanted to park our RV right next to Hulun lake for the night but stupidly managed to get it stuck in the sand. Impossible to drive out anymore 😓 Immediately, and I mean immediately, people around us started to pitch in to help. Luckily it so happened that a group of ex-PLA soldiers were having a get-together barbecue 100 meters away from us. They got told about our issue, stopped their barbecue and came to help. They told us "don't worry, no matter what we'll get you out, it's just a matter of time". Before we know it, one of the guys takes the wheel of the RV and the others start pushing. In 5 minutes, job done! RV unstuck and the guys get back to their barbecue. The Chinese are often depicted as cold and distant but my consistent experience is that they're one of the kindest people in the world, always ready to help a fellow human in need!show more

2025 UGA-Texas game has been on SEC Network today.... Had it on in the background while doing some stuff around the house. Couple random thoughts… - Really impressed with the back that Nate Frazier became last year. Doled out a lot of punishment in that 4th quarter - Kirby’s big game experience has allowed him to feel momentum and take his swings (4th&5/onside) before it becomes predictable. As the sport continues to compress, that might be worth a couple wins a year - Gunner’s ability to influence second/third level defenders off RPO/rollout/play-action looks when UGA gets the run going is really good. When gap scheme runs are hitting they become really hard to defend, especially when using the depth of the TE room to offset predictability. - UGA has to fight temptation to go into a shell after an early turnover. Lot of wasted possessions after Gunner’s INT in that game. - Zayden Walker’s bend off the edge is high level. Will be fun to watch in 2026 - Losing Bobo/Harris in those last two games is why Kirby and every other SEC coach are distressed by the CFP selection process and a 9-game SEC schedule - Mike Bobo is the favorite punching bag of some but he was cooking in the fourth quarter of that game. Found ways to freeze defenders and create leverage after Texas keyed in on Branch and did a good job stuffing a lot of zone looks up front.show more

At the end of the day, Kobe still has five championships that the Lakers wouldn't have won without him. The Sabotaging Practice of Over Supply and Sameness in... the NFT Space. The current zeitgeist of the NFT space is that the same artists are doing the same kind of work five times a year, with project after project leaving a trail of disappointment and discontent among collectors and all of us watching in disbelief as huge resources are extracted from the space over work that feels like it could be left as an "artist study." I understand that you can do what you want with your money as collectors, but we are killing the whole space with this incestuous practice. No artist is that prolific to be able to do 5 collections of 100+ pieces each every year and actually deliver innovation and some kind of creative evolution. Of course, they can pretend play that the work has something new, but there is no precedent nor proof that that has ever happened in the speed that it happens in the NFT space. Again, people are free to through away their resources on whatever they want but with this way of doing things, we more and more are going to start seeing the consequences. Oh! There are consequences? Yes. Maybe unintended, but there are. Let's see. Let's start with the loss of belief in the NFT space as somewhere where emerging artists can come and find support for their experiments. Why even bother to bring experiments, innovation, and new ways to think of art on the blockchain if the same people have all the collectors hypnotized with their magical flutes? Why even try to come to a space where taking risks and challenging the status quo (the mission of art!!!) is overlooked? This makes the NFT space a social club and not a space for art. I guess it is fine, but IMO it is a recipe for disaster. New collectors stay away because the art will slowly but surely become stale and un-challenging. Why even bother to come and see what is happening here if you can't, as a collector, see new weird and up-and-coming artists? The amount of noise emitted by the same artists doing the same art over and over, drowns out any new voices. Again. A recipe for disaster. The NFT space is becoming a space of disappointment and doubt. We think that collections going to zero one after the other, over and over, is not damaging? I feel we are kidding ourselves. Disappointment piles up, and again, the people who will hurt are the emerging artists, the new blood, the ones who are willing to risk the most and, in return, put fire in this cold space of sameness. I love this space—don't get me wrong—it has changed my life, and I believe it has a ton of potential, but things need to change for it to become a beacon of light in art. But we need to support new voices. We need to support new ideas. The challenge is huge. I hope to contribute all I can to this change. I hope more and more see how exciting it is to go out and try to discover what else is out there and move this space forward.
