JUST IN: The driver who struck and killed DC... police officer Terry Bennett on I-695 has been charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed. 47 year-old Jerrold Coates— a DC government employee with the Department of Parks and Recreation— had to be given NARCAN after the crash, according to NBC Washington’s Mark Segraves. Fatal Torque Roll In this video from May 1945,... a USMC Corsair crashes on take-off, killing pilot Edward Groves As explained by our friend KC-10 Driver ✈️ 👨‍✈️ B-737 Wrangler "The Corsair had so much power that on takeoff or go-around you had to limit how much you used. The moment the wheels leave the ground, there is nothing to keep the plane’s torque from rolling it over, as the low airspeed means the rudder is not effective enough to stop it". The Corsair´s Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine provided a massive amount of torque that often caught inexperienced pilots, and earned such nicknames as "hog", "hosenose", or "bent-wing Widow Maker". The unfortunate pilot killed in this occurrence was one of these inexperienced pilots: 2nd Lieutenant Edward Clifford Groves, 26, was a student pilot candidate trainee. When the accident occurred, he was on a "daytime qualifications cruise", aboard USS Vella Gulf, an escort carrier assigned to training, off California.
