DU students allege that professors were appointed a month after the commencement of the semester due to which the syllabus is pending and exam forms have been issued 10 days before the exams starting on December 26, which have several flaws. The students’ unions of all three law faculties, CLC, LC1 and LC2, urged the deans to extend the exam dates but the deans stuck to the pre-scheduled dates. Yesterday on December 16, a protest was started by the students which continued throughout the day and it was peaceful, but the Dean deployed Delhi Police and CRPF to remove the students from the faculty, due to which there was chaos between the law students and the police and the matter became serious. The DU administration issued a notification stating that "The Date Sheet relating to LL.B. I/III/V Term December/January, 2024 Examination scheduled from 26th December, 2024 is put-on hold." However, the students remained adamant on their demand to postpone the examination schedule. Later, the police broke the entry gates of the campus and started lathicharge in which some students were injured. It is a matter of concern that law students were treated like rioters. During the robbery, a cultist was seriously injur€d. Students protested, but were ignored and later pushed back, escalating the situation. (More videos on Telgrm). The robbery took place around 3 a.m., with several hostels targeted, leaving many students injur€d. A Buccaneer member was critically injur€d and is currently receiving treatment. Students reported the robbery to the school authorities and the king’s palace, but they were ignored, and instead, the police were sent to disperse the protestors. Student sources told NC that cultists joined the protest, leading to gunfire exchanges with the police (shots fired in the air). Buccaneers are investigating whether the robbers were cultists and have also joined the protest. Some sources warn that if the issue isn’t addressed, it could lead to a clash between students and indigenes, as many students believe the indigenes were involved in the robbery. OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and... bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. They are protesting deportation orders levelled against students that were unknowing victims of bogus acceptance letters from their immigration consultant in India. A Conservative Party motion, at the federal government's immigration committee, to temporarily suspend the deportations until claims are fully investigated was delayed by the committee in a 6-5 vote. Vision IAS Delhi Students Deserve Clarity. No student should... have to prepare for UPSC with fear, confusion and uncertainty. Also, No institute should have to go through such a phase. Students have paid their fees, trusted the institute and planned their preparation around its classes, teachers, test series and study material. They are not asking for too much. They only want to know what is happening and what will happen next. This is not the time for silence. The Director, the management and the senior faculty should come together on one stage and speak directly to the students. They should clearly explain whether classes will continue, which faculty members will remain, how pending courses will be completed and what support will be given to enrolled students. Even if there are problems, students can understand them. What they cannot handle is being left without answers. At this point, assurance matters. A clear and honest interaction can reduce rumours, rebuild confidence and help students focus again on their preparation. Students are already carrying the pressure of one of the toughest examinations in the country. They should not be made to carry the burden of institutional uncertainty as well. They are not asking for promises. They are asking for clarity, continuity and responsibility. I am sure Vision IAS will resolve this.show more
