In Sumy, a city in northeastern Ukraine near the Russian border, this barbaric act killed at least 32 people, including two precious children, and injured many others, among them ten children. Such deliberate violence against defenseless worshippers reveals a profound disregard for compassion and morality. I demand justice, accountability, and an immediate end to these atrocities, calling on all people of conscience to denounce this evil and work relentlessly for peace and reconciliation. Rescue operations are now underway in various regions of... our country following Russian drone strikes. In Sumy, a Russian drone struck near a shopping mall. So far, two people are known to have been killed and fourteen others wounded. A brutal strike on a nine-story apartment building in Kyiv killed one person and injured seven, including two children. The Russians carried out large-scale attacks on Mykolaiv overnight and throughout the morning. Tragically, two people were killed and seven others wounded. My condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed. Right now, it is important for all partners to focus as much as possible and work on the relevant steps toward de-escalation and an end to the killing. We discussed this both with the U.S. President’s team and with European representatives. If this Russian war continues, all the terrorist attacks and terrorist tactics that Russia is testing in Ukraine – and against which we are seeking and building defenses – could become tools for exerting the same kind of pressure on other countries as well. That is exactly why Putin came to believe he could wage a much larger war and confront the West even more aggressively. These days, leaders of the G20 are meeting. The entire world needs them not to turn a blind eye to Russia’s continued terror. Only when the world reacts decisively can the situation change. Russia has involved North Korea in its war—and the reaction has been weak. Russia has continued its terror for nearly 1,000 days—and the world’s decisions are still delayed. Two years ago, at the G20 Summit, Ukraine presented the Peace Formula—a clear path to ending this war. Yet it has not been implemented. The time to act is now.
