I walked the picket line... again this weekend with hotel housekeepers striking against inhumane treatment, including anti-strike violence by Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Los Angeles. Fairmont housekeepers clean 14 to 15 large rooms a day. The hotel, which cut staff during COVID, is now enjoying pre-COVID occupancy rates and profits but nevertheless wants to increase daily workloads to 18 rooms to compensate for understaffing. 3 out of every 5 workers is injured on the job each year due to repetitive lifting of heavy mattresses + bending to scrub and clean. Workers typically commute 2 hours from Palmdale or Victorville because of the unaffordable housing in Santa Monica. Some live in their cars during the work week to save gas money. Many of the workers also work two jobs to keep up with inflation. As he laid off hundreds of hotel workers during the pandemic, Hilton’s CEO doubled his own salary from $10 million to $20 million annually.show more

I'm really lost for words. Five months ago, the... Arkansas Baptist College football team was expelled from our practice facility due to unpaid rental fees for maintenance and upkeep. Consequently, spring football practice was suspended and many of our promising student-athletes left, and many of the ballers that we were attempting to recruit, shunned our efforts. Fast forward to the third week of football in September. The Buffaloes are 2-1 with their only loss coming from FCS Houston Christian, in which they were very competitive for a half. I had no expectations for Coach Richard Wilson and his staff this season. After enduring so many challenges, just fielding a team for the 2025 football season would be considered victorious for the program. But these young men have tasted winning, and now they want more.
