Here Jeff Currie (former Global Head of Commodities Research... at Goldman Sachs) slips and admits that the #Silver ETFs ($SLV etc) are the physical #Silver piggy banks for the Bullion Banks/Authorized Participants (BBs/APs). The APs/BBs would borrow $SLV shares to redeem for physical #Silver and sell the physical #Silver on the COMEX (via EFP). This way the Bullion Banks are effectively reducing the physical #Silver holdings of $SLV while able to deliver the physical #Silver that they redeemed from $SLV to settle COMEX #Silver futures short positions via EFP. This therefore minimizes the upward pressure on the price of #Silver futures at the COMEX because the Bullion Banks don’t need to directly short cover at the COMEX using this EFP physical #Silver delivery method.
