Two lonely protesters against the growing autocracy and forced... mobilization are being stopped by the police. It is not Russia, it is Kyiv. In Ukraine there are plenty of attempts at protests that either get stopped right away or receive zero coverage at all. For example, women who have lost husbands, sons, or relatives regularly try to hold rallies demanding that more be done to search for the missing. Those barely register. In Ukraine — especially in Kyiv — the police stop any solitary protests or performances that carry anti-war slogans or calls for immediate peace. Martial law completely bans public street actions, and those kinds of messages are treated by the police as attempts to destabilize the country in the "enemy’s interest." Here’s one of the latest examples. In Kyiv, two young men held a solitary picket against the forced conscription. Their signs read: “The TCC is still kidnapping people” and “War is no excuse to build a dictatorship.” The only coverage came through social media. The police shut the picket down. A source reported: “The picket started at 6:30 p.m. Two people from the town of Korostyshiv in Zhytomyr region took part — one 25, the other 26. They were detained, a protocol was drawn up for violating the rules on holding rallies, and then they were released.” Also, no one covers multiple people speaking out against the war. Not a single Western media outlet has written about this growing wave of attempts — the online critisim and protests against the war and against the excesses of the conscription officers that seize people right off the streets. Unlike in 2013, when Ukrainians spoke out against the authoritarianism and dictatorship of President Yanukovych, today's actions are not aimed at overthrowing the current government, but instead are a form of democratic expression of the will of the people against the adoption of a specific bill and peaceful dialogue with the authorities. The very fact of the possibility of holding such peaceful rallies during martial law and the authorities being capable of listening clearly shows that Ukrainian democracy is currently as strong as it is possible in conditions of full-scale war, and our civil society is mature and capable of using peaceful democratic tools to convey its opinion. I support the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán Orbán Viktor , and I thank him for not bowing to the usurper and autocrat Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Today Zelenskyy has effectively usurped power in Ukraine. He persecutes his critics, arrests political opponents, and uses mobilization as a tool of repression. People are sent to war where they die, while none of Zelenskyy’s close associates or friends are mobilized or fighting. At the same time, Zelenskyy and his friends profit from the war. Many of his friends and business partners today are connected to the defense industry, particularly to the production of drones and missiles. This is why Zelenskyy is not interested in ending the war quickly. Zelenskyy also refuses to hold elections, hiding behind the war as an excuse. Moreover, he refuses to voluntarily step down from office, although he has every right to do so. Instead, he wants to remain in power without elections. Those who criticize the authorities are persecuted. In Ukraine there are illegal detentions and kidnappings of citizens on the streets. People are held by force and subjected to pressure. Many men today are afraid to even go outside because of forced mobilization. People are kidnapped, tortured, and forced to go to the front. According to relatives of the victims, sometimes large sums of money are demanded — tens of thousands of dollars — to avoid being sent to war. In this situation, many Ukrainians are forced to flee the country. They risk their lives, crossing borders through forests, rivers, and mountains to reach European countries. One of these countries is Hungary. I am grateful to Hungary for providing protection to Ukrainian citizens. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are leaving their country today. And often they do so not only because of Russian missiles, but also because of fear of the actions of their own authorities and the system of forced mobilization. The Ukrainian people and the Hungarian people should live in peace and mutual understanding. Our countries must engage in honest and open diplomatic dialogue. That is exactly why Putin came to believe he could wage a much larger war and confront the West even more aggressively. Now, every year on February 26 – the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea – we remember this global lesson, honouring those who did not stay silent and did not falter in the face of Russian aggression, and we insist that holding the aggressor accountable for war is one of the strongest security guarantees – one of the strongest prerequisites for lasting peace. I thank everyone around the world who supports us in this, participates in the work of our Crimea Platform and other international formats that remind the world about Crimea and the meaning of its occupation by Russia. C10s⁉️ | Officers from the South African Police Service... have seized a vehicle that was found at the home of the son of former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe. The vehicle is not a police car, but it was fitted with a police siren and white flashing lights, which are only allowed on authorised emergency vehicles. Officers came across the car as it was leaving the premises while they were returning to continue searching for a missing firearm. The vehicle had three occupants inside, two men and one woman.
