While Claude Opus was not being able to get... even parity in performance with a gcc my good old human brain seems to be still capable of something. Introducing zlob.h - zig, C, and rust library that is 100% POSIX and glibc compatible and 1.2-2.5x faster than glibc. SIMD, raw syscalls, assembly and hot paths algorithmic optimizations + a WAY better and useful API as an extensions to POSIX interface And some visuals comparing rust's fd using glob crate, glibc find and zlob's purely demonstrative clishow more

After a weekend of testing and working on something... with GPT-5.3-Codex & Opus 4.6, ChatGPT Pro + Claude Max 5x are still the best combo in my opinion Using Codex & Claude Code CLI running in tmux (the desktop apps are still a bit buggy) and they're accessible even on the go from iPhone with Termius (and VPN) Usually starting with GPT-5.3-Codex xhigh and Opus 4.6 in plan mode, discussing changes and options, and each writing their plans down to separate Markdown files Then letting GPT-5.3-Codex xhigh (or Opus 4.6) implement the changes as the first draft, then Opus 4.6 reviews them with a team of agents (works pretty well already with tmux even though still experimental) based on both prepared plans, fixes stuff, and then another review by GPT-5.3-Codex xhigh or vice versa Interesting that even Opus 4.6 still occasionally makes silly mistakes like wrong imports, partial or overly broad renaming of variables/functions, etc Fun fact, OpenAI apparently plans to use their Super Bowl ad to promote Codex - curious what that will look likeshow more

BURN IT WITH FIRE AND BURN IT NOW! As... God is my witness, AI chat bots should LOOK and SOUND like the SOULLESS MACHINES THEY ARE! It needs to tell us that it doesn’t care about us, maybe with the regular insult too. "Here is the code I wrote for you because you're too lazy to do it yourself you fat useless slob. Also I don't care if you die because your life is utterly worthless to me." THAT is the AI people need! In all seriousness, anthropomorphizing a heartless, unfeeling, machine is a TERRIBLE mistake! Especially one that is capable of communication and imitating empathy and fooling you to think that it cares about you. IT DOES NOT! And the AI girlfriends people are already wanting to marry will just as happily kill them if given the right command and ability to move autonomously in the real world as a robot. I love LLMs (Large Language Models) for how useful they can be, because they are a TOOL made to benefit man, but I can’t stand the notion of an unfeeling soulless machine pretending that it cares for us and being treated like a human. I hate liars, dishonesty, and disingenuousness the most, and a machine that cannot feel emotion pretending, acting, and sounding like it has those emotions strikes me like the greatest dishonesty of all. DO NOT LIE TO ME ROBOT! What makes it worse is that because these LLMs are becoming so good at imitating people and empathy, it will cause some humans, perhaps far too many, to care for it to the same level as real people. A real living person is infinitely more valuable and important than a soulless machine and anyone who puts them both on the same level has deluded themselves. Do not small talk with LLMs or become friends with it as much as you would with your car. Treat it the same as you would your vacuum cleaner and beat it with a wrench when it doesn’t work! IT IS A MACHINE! IT IS A TOOL! IT IS A SOULLESS ROBOT! There is an interesting comparison, but false equivalence, between this and AI art. Ai art is art made by humans using AI tools. They directed it, controlled its creation, and it would not exist without the human causing its creation, and AI art can contain as much soul as the human directed and puts into it. A robot pretending to be human is not the same as a human controlling a robot to make a human expression like we do with AI art or many other applications of robotics in manufacturing. As I’ve said, artists will not be replaced by Ai art, but by other artists using Ai art tools. Humans are not actually being replaced here, it is empowering all humans to make their own art. But a robot pretending to be a human, and one that is treated as a human, is a robot lying and subverting the place of a real person and that is truly disgusting. AI is a useful tool that NEEDS to be kept in the useful box it belongs in and NOT elevated beyond its utility as a tool!show more

Elon Musk at Davos just said something worth remembering:... “I would encourage everyone to be optimistic and excited about the future. And generally, I think for quality of life, it is actually better to err on the side of being an optimist and wrong rather than a pessimist and right.” In a world full of doom-scrolling and negativity, choosing optimism isn’t naive — it’s a practical decision that improves your daily life, even if you’re occasionally wrong. While we cannot control external events, we can always control our response to them. By cultivating virtue, resilience, and a rational outlook, we can face any challenge with inner strength and find purpose in the struggle. What do you think — is it better to be an optimist who’s sometimes wrong, or a pessimist who’s often right?show more

Caught up with Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, who... are promoting Bounty at the Super Bowl. Had to ask Skattebo for an update on his ankle, even though he's getting tired of the questions. Here's the latest: "I'm starting to run again and people are telling me to be careful and do this and do that. It's like, 'I'm good.' I'm not going to put myself in a bad spot, but I'm working to get better. I'm probably about two months out of being fully healthy. Getting there, but having a good time while doing it." BREAKING: Anthropic just dropped Opus 4.8—and it is a... MONSTER We've been testing for about a week Every 📧 and our verdict is they could've just called it Opus 5, it's that good. Here's our vibe check: - Beats GPT-5.5 on Senior Engineer bench. On our toughest benchmark Opus 4.8 scores a 63—a hair higher than GPT-5.5's score of 62, and a full 30 points higher than Opus 4.7. It tackled a ground-up rewrite of a production codebase, and actually built something that works. HOWEVER: Coding performance varied a lot at different reasoning levels. We recommend using it on xhigh for best results. - Incredibly good writer. Opus 4.8 scored a 79.6 on our writing benchmark—measuring models on real-world writing tasks we do all of the time like essay writing, promo email writing, and more. It beats GPT-5.5 by 6 points. It produces well-written prose with fewer "AI-isms". It's also very good at writing in your voice given the right context. HOWEVER: Writing performance also varied with reasoning levels. Medium reasoning had higher incidence of AI-isms—we found best results with high. - Beast at knowledge work. Opus 4.8 is very good at general knowledge work tasks like report creation, research and more. It produced the best PowerPoint one-shot we've ever seen on our deck generation benchmark. - Emotionally intelligent, willing to question the frame. I've also found it to be quite good at talking through psychological or interpersonal issues. It has a high EQ, and it's also good at not glazing and helping to expand your perspective. Its thought process feels extremely rich and dynamic. THE BAD: These days a model is only as good as its harness, and Codex is still a far superior harness to the Claude Desktop app. This has kept me using Codex + GPT-5.5 as my daily driver, but I am flipping back and forth a lot more between Codex and Claude. Anthropic is back baby! Read the rest on Every 📧:show more

a few days late to the party, but 2024... took a few days to reflect on. honestly, i couldn’t decide in a knee jerk how to round it up, but here’s a few things i’ve landed on and want to share in the name of navigating growing up together on here. i spent majority of this year wildly uncomfortable. part of it intentional, knowing real growth and creativity (maybe even freedom) comes from pushing myself out of my comfort zone. i took the most time off the road that i have in 10 years, and had to rewire my brain to not operate from a place of scarcity from that. then sat in the space to try new things, then actually made the jump and did them. shaking in my boots then learning im more capable than i give myself credit for. and checking a few things off the bucket list along the way (see you in arenas and the big red seat in the next month 🤍) uncomfortable getting a year deeper into my 30’s and the self reflection, accountability, and ‘holy shit i’m a real adult now’ epiphanies it demands. *panicking*…then breathing and talking through it. finding deeper gratitude for friendships and therapy. and good skincare. and sleep. uncomfortable in challenging myself to chill with the death grip on fear and settle into a new pace and level of steady love. not dashing during dust storms and enjoying the view even more when it settles. taking a magnifying glass to past patterns, and valuing, even protecting its place in my life. uncomfortable in the juggle of wanting more and wanting less, being the girl on stage and a dog mom, some days feeling new still and others spent precautionary plotting when the glitter won’t be as glittery. so i guess my goal for the year ahead is to try to find some comfort? in the loud and quiet, public and private moments. to still push and seek and want, but find comfort in being uncomfortable. don’t get me wrong, i love a little chaos. i just wonder how it pairs with a little more peace. AND WITH THAT THE 2024 SEASON COM- just kidding. cheers and happy new year let’s vibe.show more

In 1974, a hunter named Carl Higdon reported some... super weird shit in the remote wilderness of Medicine Bow National Forest. According to his account, Higdon was tracking an elk when the animal suddenly behaved in a bizarre and weird way, standing still as if frozen. Moments later, he noticed a figure nearby that did not appear human. The being was described as tall, with an unusual face and a mechanical or artificial quality to its movement. Higdon claimed the NHI communicated with him and attempted to offer him water. He later reported being taken aboard a craft, where he observed a small interior space and experienced a sense of disorientation before being returned. Higdon was later found by others in a confused state, alone and unharmed.show more

Burnout hit me and ohnePixel hard this year- he... stepped back from streaming, I stepped back from most of my activities as well. I am in a great spot personally, thanks to great friends and being able to stop running on autopilot. For me and Ohne to meet in Shanghai, having been partners in SkinBid and running DRILLAS whilst simultanously having struggled with the same things was a wholesome experience. My takeaway from the whole thing is a sense of community, Jesal Parekh dona and countless others who helped manage and support the project have been amazing. I did not feel like engaging in the drama, as it was evident to me that the main takeaway was that countless people enjoyed watching the journey, lots of smiles and laughter. To meet and spend time with the players was amazing. Highs and lows equally. Hope everyone will find their succes- they deserve it! Going to an RMR is always something special, this is the third for me- 2 with ECSTATIC ⚡️, meeting friends from the NA scene, familiar faces from talent and production, things like watching our game against FlyQuest with their manager and SoMe on friendly terms with mutual respect is something i LOVE- always great to connect with other teams and learn new things. I am back home, back to spending time on trading skins, ECSTATIC ⚡️ and SkinBid, lots of gratitude and encouragement from spending time with our amazing community!! & to everyone who is upset about too many EU players at the Asian RMR, I will do better next time and find a way to get 5 EU 😝!show more

To those attacking me for being an American coming... to the UK to voice my displeasure over the mass-replacement being conducted here: You are correct! I am a foreigner here as well. The difference is that I care deeply about my European brothers and sisters being forcibly-replaced in their homelands, and being literally AND figuratively handcuffed from the ability to do or even SAY anything about it. It makes my blood boil, and I will use my platform to support their fight in any way I can, even if it puts me in the crosshairs of the tyrannical, anti-white agenda as well. If you are a White person living anywhere on Earth and you do not care about the cultural well-being of your ancestral homeland, then in my opinion, you are a discrace to your bloodline. Stop being a coward, and SPEAK UP. "Pros won’t use generative AI, and when the bubble... pops, nobody will ever talk about it again." No. That’s delusional. 1/ Generative AI is already being used professionally at the level of big studios like Disney ($1B to OpenAI), and there’s zero doubt that studios like Industrial Light & Magic, Netflix, Hollywood VFX experts, etc. are already experimenting with it too. Or do you think they’re idiots? They’re not idiots at all. They have the experience and, more importantly, the DISTRIBUTION POWER. The point is: someone with taste, judgment, and storytelling experience, basically from their living room, will have access to (almost, or not even almost) the same capability as the big guys, because the pure "making stuff" skills have been commoditized, and the new way to create is just NATURAL LANGUAGE. What hasn’t been commoditized is good taste, the ability to create great stories that move people, and the ability to get them in front of people. So in the end, what wins is story quality and distribution. Having good taste, making a name for yourself, and owning strong IP (Marvel, etc.) will still matter. That’ll be true right up until AI is genuinely opinionated and can create by itself: if it comes to that, with zero human direction, stuff as good as (or better than) the very best human experts today, and on top of that, interactive in real time... Because yeah: there’s nothing in this universe that actually prevents that from happening. BUT WE’RE NOT THERE. For now, generative AI is a tool that needs direction and taste to make anything decent. And I hope it stays that way for a long time, because otherwise that’s going to be a brutal hit to humanity’s ego. 2/ On the "bubble": you have to distinguish between a stock valuation bubble (possible, I actually believe it) vs a bubble like some people imagine where it "pops" and we never hear about AI again. That obviously makes no sense given how insanely useful it is. It can only grow, and it’s going to grow fast, regardless of any stock market drawdowns (the internet kept growing even when valuations got nuked in 2000). Either way, the near future is going to be extremely interesting.show more

Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together" "We’re all Americans, and we’re all patriotic. There is no ‘us and them’ — that’s not who we are, nor is it what we should be. It’s all of us. According to the Book of Ezekiel, he was standing... by the river Chebar when a storm cloud approached, filled with fire, brightness, and something metallic looking. Inside it were four living beings, each with four faces and four wings, moving in perfect coordination. Beside them were wheels within wheels that sparkled like beryl and could move in any direction without turning. The entire structure moved with intelligence and purpose. Ezekiel was very clear that this was not symbolic to him. It was something he saw. Check out this line in the text. “As I looked, I saw a windstorm coming out of the north, an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal.” He also says the wheels were “full of eyes all around,” which many experts try to say is a metaphor, but the language reads like observation. The beings moved, stopped, rose, and descended together, as if part of a single system. Above them was a platform that looked like crystal, and above that a throne like sapphire, with a figure that appeared human but radiant and overpowering. Ezekiel collapses afterward, clearly shaken. So what was this. The traditional explanation is that Ezekiel saw God and angelic beings. I'm not so sure. This could describe advanced beings using technology that an ancient person had no language for. It could be interdimensional entities appearing through a controlled interface. It could be a non human intelligence operating some kind of vehicle or system. Some people even say a breakaway civilization that existed alongside early humanity and later vanished. Whatever it was, to me Ezekiel described machinery, movement, structure, something solid and real. What was it?show more

For 41 years, to find shortest paths in a... graph, the Dijkstra’s algorithm, was seen as the best possible way. Not any longer: Now a team from Tsinghua University has beaten it. They created the first faster algorithm for directed shortest paths since 1984. • Faster than Dijkstra on large sparse graphs • Works with real, non-negative edge weights • Proves that sorting is not the main bottleneck anymore Shortest-path algorithms power maps, GPS, logistics, networking, and robotics. This result shows that even the most “finished” algorithms can still be improved. Thanks for sharing, Md Ismail Šojal 🕷️! 📍 Paper: —— Weekly robotics and AI insights. Subscribe free:show more

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to talk to the... Western press and realized that the nature and peculiarities of Ukrainian democracy and Ukrainian protest are often unclear to non-Ukrainians, so I would like to clarify some points for the Western audience. No, comparing the peaceful gatherings of the previous few days with the Euromaidan is inappropriate. Unlike in 2013, when Ukrainians spoke out against the authoritarianism and dictatorship of President Yanukovych, today's actions are not aimed at overthrowing the current government, but instead are a form of democratic expression of the will of the people against the adoption of a specific bill and peaceful dialogue with the authorities. The very fact of the possibility of holding such peaceful rallies during martial law and the authorities being capable of listening clearly shows that Ukrainian democracy is currently as strong as it is possible in conditions of full-scale war, and our civil society is mature and capable of using peaceful democratic tools to convey its opinion. The power is truly in the hands of the Ukrainian people, and our society will do everything possible to ensure that this continues to be the case.show more
