The next manipulation tool may not live on your... screen. It may stand in front of you look into your eyes and convince you that it understands. Would you rather face a humanoid robot strong enough to hurt you or one designed well enough to make you trust it? This robot copies blinking, eye contact, head movement and facial expressions to create the illusion of human presence. That may look impressive but it also opens a darker question. When a machine can look concerned appear friendly and imitate emotion people may start trusting signals that contain no real feeling no empathy and no moral responsibility. Had an amazing time at the Stanford Robotics Center... Launch event this Saturday! The Packard building’s underground floor has been transformed into a bright new robotics lab, complete with a mocap room, specialized spaces for domestic, field, and surgical robots, and even an aquarium in progress for the Ocean One bot! Check out the videos below—there’s one of me operating a Da Vinci surgical robot 🤖 Robotics truly embodies interdisciplinary collaboration, pulling together expertise from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, materials science, HCI, and design. It’s the kind of field where no single department could drive research forward alone. This new center is an incredible resource to unite researchers, and I have to admit, I’m a bit envious of the PhD students who get to work in such an inspiring environment! This is how Strike Robot turns Simulation into Reality!... One of the biggest challenges in robotics is ensuring that behaviors validated in simulation work reliably in the real world. For this experiment, we reconstructed part of a real laboratory at Eastworlds inside SR Platform. The generated layout was then deployed into MuJoCo. Using SR Agentic, the robot was tasked with finding abnormal objects in a cluttered environment and sending a Telegram notification when detected. Midea has just introduced a six-armed super-humanoid robot designed... for complex task handling and multi-step operations,essentially functioning as a self-contained workstation. The new humanoid is an upgraded version of the earlier Miro wheeled humanoid robot. In August, Miro was deployed at Midea’s Jingzhou factory in Hubei, working alongside AMRs, single-arm four-wheel robots, KUKA robots, and human workers. The six-arm Miro will soon join this lineup as well, further boosting the factory’s intelligent automation and operational efficiency.show more

Something big is happening in robotics - and it’s... hiding in plain sight. This post is not about dancing robots but in the data that powers them. Open robotics datasets have exploded this year, turning the field into a more scalable and collaborative ecosystem. In just two years, Hugging Face datasets grew from 11k to over 600k - and robotics is by far the fastest-growing segment. We went from 1k robotics datasets in 2024 to 27k in 2025! For comparison, text generation, the second-largest category, has only around 5k datasets in 2025. That gap is massive. Open datasets are important because robotics lives and dies by real-world robot data - video, actions, sensors, failures. By making this data easy to upload, reuse, and benchmark, researchers, startups, and large players are now releasing real-robot datasets that would have stayed locked inside labs just a few years ago. Major contributors include NVIDIA, LeRobot initiative, and a rapidly growing maker community. This surge is also enabled by cheaper video storage, better tooling, and an open-source AI culture now spilling into the physical world. And it really matters: open robotics data dramatically lowers entry barriers, accelerates learning-by-doing, and speeds up progress toward generalist and humanoid robots. Most humanoid projects talk about real work. Very few... last an hour on a real line. This week I saw a case that matters for anyone building robots, perception, or physical AI. Kinisi deployed its first mobile manipulation system into a live recycling facility. Not a demo. Not a staged test. A real production line with real output pressure. Why this matters if you want robotics to deliver real value on your floor: • Handles mixed glass with random poses and no fixed fixtures. • Runs real grasp selection under noise, vibration and production variability. • Maintains throughput while avoiding breakage on a delicate material. • Shows mobile manipulation doing actual shift work instead of controlled lab runs. Kinisi published a video that shows what the robot sees and how sensor data turns into action. This is the part most teams struggle to explain to customers, so the educational angle is useful for anyone working on adoption. On top of this, the team signed a pilot with a global automotive manufacturer to explore humanoid use cases in production. The direction is clear. Wheeled mobility (not legs!) plus strong perception seems to be shaping a large part of industrial humanoids right now. There’s no plan to solve the migrant crisis but at least you have a robot, NYC! The 400 pound robot, was leased by the NYPD for 6 months & will cost them $12,500. “We’re committed to exploring innovative tools to continue to make this city the safest big city in America, and this robot K5, it has the potential to serve as an important tool in our toolbox,” Adams said. Researchers at Columbia University have developed modular robots that... can adapt, repair, and even rebuild themselves using a concept called robot metabolism. 🤖 Instead of remaining fixed, these robots can detach, reconnect, and reorganize their own structure based on the task or environment. If one part is damaged, the system can replace or rearrange itself rather than stopping completely.
