A big part of our lesson was learning front-side compression how the front leg and hip stabilize so the body can rotate up against it into contact. Too many hitters think forward momentum is “bad,” but it’s not. Moving forward is necessary, the key is keeping the body connected as it moves. We worked on using the rear lat and back side to pull back and stay connected to the front side. This keeps the body together instead of pushing forward. Through resistance band and towel drills, they learned the feel of: •Holding strong direction through the front side, •Allowing the pelvis to pull the rear leg through, •Creating whip of the barrel against the front side and through extension.show more

She clearly understands their purpose and knows they wrap around her feet. But exactly how, remains a bit of a mystery. So it’s time for the scientific method. Our hero seems to know (from past experience) that the process begins at the toes, but when pressing the sock into them doesn’t work she moves progressively down the foot - next wrapping it around her foot just below the toes. Daniel Berger’s move is super unique. Really strong left... hand grip, and a backswing that he’s been retooling recently. Mainly by making it shorter, to get him out of “excessive” back extension, which was causing him pain. A drill he does that helps: “As I’m taking the club away, I lift my left foot off the ground, then I press it back into the ground...that basically helps me get rid of the last few frames of my backswing. You can call it an overswing, and that gets rid of the excessive back extension that’s really the area that we saw was most prone to injury.”show more
