UNUSUAL China begins building the “New Three Gorges” China... has announced the launch of a major new project — the construction of the “Three Gorges” waterway on the Yangtze River, which will include the largest navigation gate in the world. The project, costing 77.2 billion yuan (£11.4 billion), includes a new navigation channel at the Three Gorges Dam — the largest engineering project in the world — as well as an expansion of the dam’s capacity at Gezhouba downstream on the Yangtze. It is designed for vessels of up to 10,000 tons. This is the first major national project to be launched under China’s 14th Five‑Year Plan (2026–2030), and it comes after ten years of research and planning studies. It is being built due to the rising volume of transport along the Yangtze River — China’s main inland shipping artery. Once completed, the annual capacity of the “Three Gorges” will double, exceeding 336 million tonsshow more

Construction of the 3.2-kilometre Magufuli Bridge on Lake Victoria was initiated by the former president in December 2019. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who came into office in March 2021, is expected to officially inaugurate the mammoth project before the end of the year. The project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2023, but construction was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally known as the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, the Chinese-built mega infrastructure was renamed Magufuli Bridge in honour of the former president. The project is being developed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Group (CCECG) and China Railway. The bridge was entirely financed by the government of Tanzania through its own revenues. The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), said construction of the bridge was completed on October 6. "As the last tank of cement was poured on Sunday, the construction of the Magufuli Bridge was completed by two Chinese companies in Tanzania's northwestern Mwanza region," the People's Daily said in an online post. "The Magufuli Bridge is the only extra-dosed cable-stayed bridge in the Lake Victoria region and the longest of its kind in Africa." Please Lord, save us from this imbecile. The "biggest... threat to blackouts" is his ignorance and stupidity. Solar breaks down when the clouds come across, and it breaks down 100% when the sunsets. And wind is more chaotic, breaking down all the time when the wind eases off or doesn’t blow enough. In fact wind is lucky to work at just h30% of its capacity - meaning it’s broken down 70%. Blackout Bowen is actually making the case why we need to start building new coal fired power stations yesterday. China currently has a fleet of 1,147 GW of coal-fired power, with a further 421 GW of new coal fired power stations under construction & development. In contrast Australia’s total fleet is an ageing 21GW of coal fired power, which Blackout Bowen wants to close down. If you are going to bed, say a prayer for Australia.show more

‼️🇩🇪🇺🇸 BREAKING - The world's leading supplier of satellite... imagery, Planet Labs, plans to launch production of its next-generation high-precision Pelican satellites in Berlin, investing tens of millions of euros in the project. According to the company, this move will double the total production capacity of the Pelican fleet, complementing the existing line at the company's headquarters in San Francisco, and underscores the strategic importance of Germany, where Planet Labs already employs about 150 people. The expansion is directly linked to a multi-year contract worth 240 million euros that Planet Labs Germany GmbH received from the German government to "support peace and security in Europe," providing NATO with access to timely satellite imagery in their areas of operational interest. Thus, Planet Labs, founded by three NASA scientists and operating the world's largest Earth observation satellite fleet, is strengthening its position in Europe, supporting German efforts to develop the space sector. This is Nkpor-Nnobi road constructed by Dr. Chris Ngige... 20 years ago in solid condition. You can hardly get a Peter Obi road still this solid just 10 years after he left office. The only two major roads completed under Obi era still in relatively good condition are the Old Onitsha-Awka Road (this was awarded to RCC by Ngige and they were already executing the contract when Ngige was sacked) and the Onitsha-Odumodu section of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway (which was a Federal road project already awarded to CCC by FG). Even some roads being built by Soludo today have started failing even before completion by the contractor (example Amawbia-Agulu-Ekwuluobia-Uga road. When it comes to road construction, give it up for Dr. Chris Ngige. His first priority was QUALITY. Back in 2003-2005, Ngige used experienced companies like RCC, NigerCat. Yes, its been a terrible start for the token and execution has been incredibly poor, to say the least.. which is why the token deserves the price its currently sitting at.. But I have no doubts about Redbelly Network from a technical pov.. Formally verified, fork-proof, instant finality.. one of the fastest, most secure and scalable blockchains in the world, already securing assets in the billions on chain.. When Politics Denies Water: How the PTI-Initiated Chapri (Mianwali)... Dam Water Supply Project Remains Stalled While 143,000 People Continue to Suffer: For generations, the people of the Khattak Belt in Tehsil Isa Khel, District Mianwali, have lived under the shadow of a severe and persistent drinking water crisis. The core Khattak Belt comprises the Union Councils of Tabi Sar, Tola Bangi Khel, Chapri, Kot Chandana, Sultan Khel and Wanjari. However, the wider area affected by this crisis and intended to benefit from Chapri Dam Water Supply Project extends across 87 villages&8 Union Councils, encompassing a population of approximately 143,752 people. Despite decades of promises, surveys, announcements&official acknowledgements of the problem, thousands of families continue to be deprived of reliable access to clean and safe drinking water. In many villages, residents remain dependent upon stagnant rainwater ponds& natural depressions, often shared by both humans&livestock. Women, children&elderly citizens are frequently forced to travel long distances under harsh weather conditions simply to collect water for their households. The same contaminated ponds serve as the only source of water for both people and animals. Situation is further aggravated by fact that groundwater lies at a depth of 800 feet and is often contaminated by harmful mineral deposits, rendering it unsuitable for human consumption. For countless families, access to safe drinking water remains a daily struggle rather than a basic right. What should be readily available in any modern society has become a constant source of hardship, anxiety and suffering. The consequences of this deprivation extend far beyond inconvenience. Unsafe water sources expose entire communities to waterborne diseases and serious health complications, undermine human dignity and place an enormous burden on already vulnerable households. Children grow up in conditions where access to clean water cannot be taken for granted, while women bear the disproportionate burden of securing water for their families. In a country where access to safe drinking water should be guaranteed, thousands of citizens continue to live in circumstances that no community should be forced to endure. Recognizing the gravity of this longstanding humanitarian crisis, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the Chapri Dam Water Supply Project in 2020 as a comprehensive and permanent solution to the chronic water shortage affecting the Khattak Belt and adjoining areas. The project was designed to deliver clean and safe drinking water to more than 143,000 residents through the construction of reservoirs, filtration facilities, transmission lines and an extensive distribution network supported by gravity-fed systems and solar-powered pumping stations. For the people of Isa Khel, this was far more than a development project. It represented hope, dignity and the prospect of finally ending a crisis that had persisted for generations. It was the first serious large-scale governmental initiative aimed at permanently resolving one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges facing the region. Following its launch, substantial progress was achieved and approximately Rs. 3.5 billion of public funds were invested in the project's execution. Significant portions of the infrastructure were completed, bringing the project within reach of transforming the lives of tens of thousands of residents. However, following the change in government, progress slowed dramatically and the project remains incomplete due to the non-release of the remaining funds required for its completion. Current PMLN Government in Punjab led by Maryam Nawaz wants to maintain status quo, they feel the project was introduced by Imran Khan and its completion will help PTI. Without realizing its 143,000 people suffering from non-availability of drinking water. This is pure political victimization.show more

Only Africa Can Save Europe Originating from COP28, the... TeraMed project aims to generate 1 TW of solar energy in North Africa, creating around 3 million direct and indirect jobs. This would currently account for about 83% of the European Union's total installed electricity capacity, including renewables, fossil fuels, and nuclear (approximately 1.2 TW as of late 2025). If this target were raised from 1 TW to 1.5 TW, the European Union would more than double its current installed capacity of about 1.2 TW, reaching a total of roughly 2.7 TW, which would exceed twice the American capacity (around 1.3 TW) and near three-quarters of the Chinese capacity (around 3.8 TW). Based on TeraMed's estimates, it would require investments of $1 trillion, generating around 4.5 million jobs in North Africa and Europe. The installation project would take between 6-10 years, though it could be accelerated with aggressive engineering and strong political will. So far, in more than one year, TeraMed has not installed a single panel, highlighting the lack of coordination among Europeans in defining their energy, industrial, and economic policy priorities. With 1.5 TW of electricity generated, industrial costs in Europe would drop significantly, fulfilling the first stage to retain and attract industries. However, a second pillar would still need to be completed: natural gas. All current pipeline projects in Africa are timid, from Mauritania and Senegal to Mozambique. Investments of $20 billion and 20,000 km of pipelines would be required across several African countries, but primarily a robust Nigerian pipeline capable of transporting at least 70 bcm, which alone would meet 20% of Europe's demand. This is a project that would take at least 10 years, though it could be accelerated at the same pace as the solar panels. These are the reasons why the war must end, and Europe must get back on track. The cost of the war far exceeds the resources sent to Ukraine. Estimates suggest that total war-related costs, including aid to Ukraine, weapons, refugees, energy losses, and sanction impacts, exceed $1.5 trillion. For these and other reasons, I always say that warmongers are the true saboteurs of Europe. Moreover, engaging in free trade agreements like those with Mercosur or Indonesia won't help, as such high energy costs will make it difficult to compete in those markets as well. The Germans are desperately trying to offset losses with solar panels, but their efficiency is 2-3 times lower than panels installed in North Africa. Therefore, a supranational plan is needed. Installing panels alone won't solve the problem if they aren't efficient enough to restore industrial competitiveness and lower overall costs. Both investments in solar panels and gas would pay for themselves in just a few years, repositioning Europe to compete in the global market, and more than that, luring back companies that have already migrated to Asia. It’s green, industrial, and economic, and it generates both local and foreign jobs, bringing development and opportunities to these countries, just as the Chinese are doing in some countries.show more

As promised by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi... in the run up to the just concluded Assembly Elections, works on cleaning of Yamuna have already begun in the right earnest, with trash skimmers, weed harvesters & a dredge utility craft already starting cleaning operations in the river today. Hon'ble Delhi LG VK Saxena LG Delhi yesterday met the Chief Secretary and ACS (I&FC) and asked them to start work immediately. At the outset a four pronged strategy has put in place to tackle the issue comprehensively. 1. To begin with, the trash, garbage and silt in the Yamuna river stream will be removed. 2. Simultaneously cleaning operations in the Najafgarh Drain, Supplementary Drain and all other major drains will start. 3. At the same time, a daily watch on the existing STPs in terms of their capacity and output will be maintained, and 4. A time bound plan in terms of construction of new STPs/DSTPs on drains etc to meet the actual shortfall of treating about 400 MGD of sewer will be put in place and operationalized. The execution of this ambitious plan that targets cleaning the river in about 3 years, will require seamless coordination between various agencies and departments that include DJB, I&FC, MCD, Environment Department, PWD and DDA. Monitoring of the abovementioned works will be done at the highest level on a weekly basis. In addition to this, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has been directed to keep strict vigil on discharge of untreated effluent into the drains by Industrial Units in the City. It may be noted that the rejuvenation of Yamuna had started in mission mode in January 2023, when the NGT had constituted a High Level Committee (HLC) under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble LG V.K Saxena. However, after 5 monthly meetings of the said HLC which was closely monitoring cleaning operations, the then AAP Government under Arvind Kejriwal moved the Supreme Court and got the NGT order stayed by the then CJI Chandrachud on 10.07.23. Thereafter, works of Yamuna Rejuvenation had again been stalled and CoD/BoD levels that had started improving slightly on a month on month basis, became worse with pollution reaching record levels early this year. *DUC shifted near the signature bridge and is going to float towards Vasudev ghat *Trash Skimmer has started working at Vasudev Ghat *Weed harvester near Signature Bridge Another weed harvester machine has started working at ITO.show more

A new EV in the offing SERES 3 is... going to be launched (locally assembled) soon in Pakistan. The expected launching price is PKR 9 million. I was given the opportunity to test drive the car. Here is my take: Like any other EV it is a more economical, soundless, and environmentally friendly car with a thrill of enjoying instant torque – I did 0 to 100 in 9 seconds (video attached). According to the manufacturers – in ideal conditions – the range is 400 km in full charge (battery capacity is 50 kwh). My experience is doing approx. 300 Km in Lahore traffic. Assuming electricity cost of Rs60/Kwh, the cost/Km is Rs9 which is 1/3rd of Sportage (the car I drive). Additionally, there is no engine maintenance cost, which makes it more economical (calculation comparison with Sportage FWD is attached). EV is the best driving option to improve the environment in your city – especially in smoggy Lahore. The biggest issue people have with EV is range anxiety – We as a family used this car for our daily errands and school runs and there was no stress for two days if we drove 80–100Km a day. The second biggest issue is that of charging. We charged this at home during the night -started charging after 11 PM (to avoid peak hour) and by 6 AM in the morning, the car is fully charged (from 30% to 100%) – hence, within city, there is no need to find a charging station. I may not prefer it on the long route – though technically it can run easily from Lahore to Bhera and within 30-40 mins charging there, the car would cruise to Islamabad. It’s a Chinese car, and I don’t like ICE Chinese cars; but in case of EV, it is a doable option. Chinese auto players are better in EV technology than Japanese and others. SERES has a very good road grip, very decent interior, and a good family car. My driver wants me to replace the one he usually drives with this one because of the cost saved in petrol. My gas guzzler-loving friends also approve of this eco-friendlier model. It’s going to be a new and exciting addition to the locally assembled cars. Good luck to Regal Motors.show more
