1 month since leaving the UK for New York... 🎉 Observations: - People here are generally more positive - Cost of living is comparable to London for the most part. I feel like it gets expensive here very quickly, however. - Public transport is ok, but the amount of crazies you encounter is a massive detractor. This week I’ve seen a woman piss [ass naked] on a platform, and a lot of drug addicts do more questionable things. I’ve seen some shit in the UK, but it’s just worse here. The gov neglects the people at the lowest part of society. - A lot of places smell here. - Food is generally good if you pay extra for non-processed stuff. That said, I had a sub from the deli, and it got the better of me 🙂‍↔️😂. - I love how easy it is to transport into another world. Each borough has so much to offer. - People care for self-improvement more than anywhere I’ve lived [capitalism >>>] Bottom line, I’m enjoying it here. I’m excited to meet more new people and start building businesses. Currently working on a new project I’ll talk about tomorrow. ✌️show more

on the topic of what constitutes "polish" - for... me it's about cleaning up those tiny blips and bugs that on their own can be missed or forgiven, but in aggregate give an impression of lower quality here, when the player enters a new area, the cutscene ends when Zayd comes to a standstill. If you're holding the stick, ready to run, he stops and then immediately starts running again, which causes this fraction-of-a-second pause in the animation. You can see it twice in this video - the first time when he enters the hut and pauses on the green carpet, and then again when he exits onto the deck. Ideally, if the player is holding the stick when the cutscene ends, Zayd won't come to a standstill, but instead will transition seamlessly from cutscene-running to player-controlled running. it's such a tiny visual glitch, and on its own not worth the 15 mins it will take me to fix it. I might even decide to not fix it after all. But this for me is a classic example of "polish"show more

You know that moment when you're testing video models... and something just... floats across the frame that shouldn't? Yeah, Kling 3.0 apparently got tired of that too. Fast Company's piece on the new Chinese models actually gets into why Kling feels different. Not because the pixels are prettier — but because stuff finally moves like it has weight. Gravity exists. Objects occlude properly. A car turning actually follows an arc instead of just... teleporting sideways. Someone in the comments called it "directing instead of gambling" and that's exactly right. Old workflow: type prompt, pull lever, pray the physics gods smile on you. New workflow: you actually have some damn control. The character locking thing is huge too. Elements feature lets you upload a reference video and it holds identity across shots. No more "wait why does his face look like a different person now" every time the camera angle changes.
