This is GIFT City. But this post is about... Gurugram. Wide roads. Underground utility tunnels. District cooling. Automated waste collection. Green-certified buildings. More than 1,200 registered entities and $111 billion in banking assets. It is not Shanghai, Shenzhen or Dubai yet. But the direction is visible. Gujarat imagined a city that could compete with global financial centres. Then it started building the infrastructure required for that ambition. Now come to Gurugram. The city credited with contributing around 65% of Haryana’s revenue. Around 25% of the state’s GST collection comes from Gurugram. Last year, it contributed ₹3,875 crore from liquor-zone auctions alone. That was 27% of Haryana’s total. The Bristol Chowk licensing zone alone fetched nearly ₹100 crore. Mr Nayab Singh Saini, what exactly is Gurugram getting in return? Garbage is lying on roads across the city. Gurugram generates around 1,200 tonnes of waste every day. The waste collection system has survived on temporary arrangements since the main contract was terminated in June 2024. Nearly two years later, the city is still floating tenders and searching for a permanent solution. Then come the roads. An MCG survey found more than 2,000 potholes across eight zones. One division alone had 600. Only 387 had been repaired when those numbers were reported. By February 2026, MCG had to announce another drive targeting 5,000 potholes in ten days. We do not have a road-maintenance system. We have pothole-filling announcements after every round of public outrage. Then it rains. In July 2025, 133 mm of overnight rain brought Gurugram to a standstill. Subhash Chowk had around 2.5 feet of water. People remained stuck in traffic until 2 AM. Open manholes disappear under rainwater. Potholes become invisible. Roads turn into accident traps. Then the electricity goes. A resident of DLF Phase 1 reported an eight-hour power cut after a five-minute drizzle. In May 2026, a fault at the Sector 72 substation disrupted eight substations and even affected Rapid Metro operations. This is happening in one of the most expensive corporate and residential districts in India. And money is not the problem. MCG spent ₹1,282 crore out of its ₹1,497 crore expenditure budget by January 2026. But only ₹85 crore had gone towards road construction and ₹240 crore towards sanitation and waste management. So the problem is worse than merely having an unspent budget. Money is being spent. Residents simply cannot see the outcome on the roads outside their homes. We are not asking Haryana to build another GIFT City tomorrow. We are asking for three things. Roads that remain usable after rain. Electricity that does not disappear with the first storm. Garbage that gets collected before every vacant plot becomes a dumping ground. These are not luxury demands. These are the most basic functions of a government. Property prices in Gurugram have reached global-city levels. People are paying ₹5 crore, ₹8 crore and ₹10 crore for apartments. But outside the gates, the roads, drains and electricity systems still feel like they belong to another decade. Gujarat looked at an empty piece of land and imagined a global city. Haryana already has one of India’s strongest economic cities. It does not need to imagine it. It only needs to stop neglecting it. Fix the roads. Fix the power. Pick up the garbage. Once the hostages are returned, Israel will free several hundred Palestinian security prisoners serving life sentences and over 1,000 Gazans arrested since the start of the war, along with the bodies of several hundred Palestinians. 6. Once the hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful coexistence will be granted amnesty, while members who wish to leave the Strip will be granted safe passage to receiving countries. 7. Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza, and the IDF will gradually hand over territory it currently occupies, as the replacement security forces establish control and stability in the Strip. 17. If Hamas delays or rejects this proposal, the above points will proceed in terror-free areas, which the IDF will gradually hand over to the international stabilization force. 18. Israel agrees not to carry out future strikes in Qatar. The US and the international community acknowledge Doha’s important mediating role in the Gaza conflict. 19. A process will be established to de-radicalize the population. This will include an interfaith dialogue aimed at changing mindsets and narratives in Israel and Gaza. 20. Bharat owes them this much PM Narendra Modi ji... 🙏 Walk into any small town. Sit at any bus stand. Visit any village in Assam, in UP, in Tamil Nadu, in Maharashtra. You will find them. The 82 year old who served the post office for 30 years on daily wages and retired with nothing. The 85 year old grandmother whose husband was a farmer, who raised five children, fed a generation, and now stretches a single roti across the day. The 88 year old freedom fighter’s son living on the kindness of a neighbour. These are not strangers. These are Bharat Mata’s oldest children. According to the UNFPA India Ageing Report 2023, there are 149 million persons aged 60 years and above in India as of 2022, comprising around 10.5 percent of the country’s population.  Within this, the population aged 80 plus is estimated at roughly 1.4 crore (14 million) people, and the population growth of older persons aged 80 plus has been at 128 per cent during 2000 to 2022 . That number is rising every single day. Now ask one simple question. Why can a country that runs the world’s largest free ration scheme, that builds 4 crore pucca houses, that sends rockets to the Moon, not give every Indian above 80 years who has zero pension support a “Respect Pension” of ₹5,000 a month? Just dignity. Just the right to buy his own medicines. Just the right to not stretch out a trembling hand at his own son’s door. Look at the calculation. Assume 1.4 crore Indians are above 80. Assume roughly half already receive some pension through government service, EPFO, NPS, IGNOAPS or state schemes. That leaves about 70 lakh elders with nothing. 70,00,000 × ₹5,000 × 12 = ₹42,000 crore per year. Forty two thousand crore. In a Union Budget of nearly ₹48 lakh crore, that is less than 1 per cent. Less than what we sometimes write off in a single round of corporate loan settlements. Less than the cost of a few mega projects. For less than 1 per cent of the Budget, Bharat can ensure that not a single citizen above 80 has to beg for tea money in his own home. Call it Rashtriya Samman Pension. Call it Vridha Samman Yojana. Call it whatever the policy desk wants. Make Aadhaar the verification. Make DBT the delivery. Make the cut off clean and simple. Anyone above 80, no government or PSU pension, no NPS, no EPFO, automatic eligibility. And for those who do not need it, a simple voluntary opt out form. Many will refuse out of pride. Let them. The ones who need it will receive it with folded hands. A nation is judged not by its skyscrapers but by how it treats its oldest citizens. We touched their feet when we were children. We owe them dignity now that they cannot stand. Construction of the 3.2-kilometre Magufuli Bridge on Lake Victoria was initiated by the former president in December 2019. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who came into office in March 2021, is expected to officially inaugurate the mammoth project before the end of the year. The project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2023, but construction was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally known as the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, the Chinese-built mega infrastructure was renamed Magufuli Bridge in honour of the former president. The project is being developed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Group (CCECG) and China Railway. The bridge was entirely financed by the government of Tanzania through its own revenues. The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), said construction of the bridge was completed on October 6. "As the last tank of cement was poured on Sunday, the construction of the Magufuli Bridge was completed by two Chinese companies in Tanzania's northwestern Mwanza region," the People's Daily said in an online post. "The Magufuli Bridge is the only extra-dosed cable-stayed bridge in the Lake Victoria region and the longest of its kind in Africa."
