It takes GRIT and sacrifice to play Div 1... Soccer. Self reflect and ask yourself these questions: 1. Will you get up for early AM lifts and not just drag yourself there but arrive happy and energized, eager to work and motivate your teammates? 2. Are you ready to miss family eventsโweddings, birthdays and be separated from your parents for longer than you ever have before? 3. Can you manage every aspect of your life for the first time by yourself, before you even throw in the rigors and demands of a sport? 4. Can you survive in an environment where you are defined by your sport and have very little social life existence outside of athletic and academic obligations? 5. Can you handle the mental challenge of going from the super star to possibly bottom of the roster, sitting on the bench, and/or not traveling with the team? 6. Will you be genuinely happy for your roommate who is getting all the playing time and attention while youโre getting none? If all answers are a resounding YES than you are built for this, but itโs not for everyone. And actually not for most. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. My experience as a Defenders fan going to STL... America's Center & The Dome for an away game. This was a solo trip, did not bring my family on this one. The St. Louis Battlehawks home games truly are one of the special environments for United Football League. Iโve been to 4 AWAY games for DC Defenders over the last 12 months and the environment for this one was fired up! They definitely should NOT move STL to a soccer stadium if they keep showing out like they did yesterday. I got to my hotel at 1AM on game day after a late flight from the west coast. I woke up 6 hours later, walked towards the stadium and randomly caught the STL player walk-ins. Then, I walked over to the tailgate and met up with The Bottom Line and enjoyed some mimosas and breakfast burritos with Ed Ploeger and his gang. Thanks for the hospitality! I was able to get him a signed Sam Kidd jersey as a thanks for all he does for the UFL community! After the tailgate, got in for gate drop at 0930, and went straight down to the field. I was able to say hi to a few players and talk with Steven McCrane as his son was nailing 50+ yard field goals with ease. Chatted up and made peace with a few STL fans around me. Once the game started, they had the place LOUD, and my watch kept alerting me that my hearing was getting damaged ๐คฃ . Being there for the first ever 4 point field goal by Matt McCrane made the travel worth it. After the home fans had a few rounds of beers, the heckling began (which was expected), but I had to pop about 6 beach balls/๐ as I became the ๐ฏ for drunk fans as the only DC fan in the section. I tossed the balls back a few times until I immediately got hit with about 3 balls in a row. So that part was a bit of a let down, as I was just trying to enjoy a game. The halftime show was great. Overall, the game experience itself left something to be desired with the penalties and getting harassed by fans who were clearly recording trying to get rage bait engagement on ๐ฅ. Probably wonโt be going back to a STL game again, but Iโm glad got to check it out! Pregame/Tailgate: 5/5 Halftime: 5/5 Game experience: 3/5 Getting to/from stadium: 5/5show more

NEED SUGGESTIONS for community, do drop in your suggestions๐... We are trying to improve the readability of articles. At present most of the blog DSA sites have lengthy articles which you read via scrolling. It looks daunting when you start with it. At TakeUforward, we are trying to change this, and help out users with an easier way to navigate and read. We want the logic to be something as you can see in the video.. the design is just a rough one, and is no where close to what we want it to be. The typical article will have problem statement, examples, followed by this sticky bar, which helps us to navigate, and ease out reading.. Should you join a Keiser golf resort? Old Shores... is now official and is accepting Founder membership applications. The cost? $115,000 Before you scoff at joining a public resort, imagine if you had a membership to Bandon Dunes. It would be priceless! Priority tee times for life. Your annual dues (likely $7500+) cover all green fees for you and spouse and kids. All your guests get half off. Plus you get first dibs at real estate and lodging. Old Shores will have a Tom Doak course to start and then a Brian Schneider course inspired by the original Augusta National. (Not the modern Masters version.) Truly, in this day and age where destination golf tee times are impossible, a Keiser Resort membership may be one of the very best you could have. Plus you can leave your membership to your kid! I regret not getting in early at Wild Spring Dunes. Huge miss. I think the people who join will be very happy.show more

I've been working on something for Lollapalooza and I'm... finally ready to talk about it! It's called the Memories Project. I, along with 3 other friends from West Coast A'TIN (WEST COAST A'TIN) will be going around Chicago with a Polaroid camera, taking photos of non A'TIN festival attendees, and handing them a mini kraft envelope. Inside: their photo, emoji face wipe, and 2 SB19 lyric stickers. Outside: a QR code to I made 40 sticker designs, all lyrics. Because if someone's not a fan and you give them a sticker of an artist's face, they won't care. But lyrics are universal. And nobody throws away a photo of themselves. That's the whole point. Give them something they actually want to keep, pair it with something relatable, and they'll start wondering who SB19 even is. We'll be distributing them at hotels, the West Coast A'TIN shuttle, festival entrance, and even at the Chicago White Sox vs New York Yankees game. Thanks to my West Coast A'TIN fam for helping cut, stick, and pack the stickers ๐, Pabloafterlife for printing, ate Myra for the wipes. You wanna know why Cooper Kupp is the best... receiver in football when heโs healthy? Because he literally does it all. There is not one receiver who does as much as Cooper. Most are dominate at 1 or 2 things. Cooper Kupp literally does everything at a dominating level. This man has great hands, he can route run with the best of them, he can use his underrated speed, he has the best IQ for a receiver, the best work ethic, and on top of that heโs one of the best blocking receivers in football. Thereโs not any other receiver in football that can match Cooper Kupp when you combine all of that together. His krpytonite has been injuries, but when heโs healthy. There is just no one close to this manโs level at the receiver spot. #NFL #RamsHouseshow more

And with that, the US Open dream is over... ๐ Just wrapped up U.S. Open local qualifying at Medford Village Country Club Didnโt quite have my best stuff off the tee todayโand on a course this tight, thatโs a problem. When I did find fairways, I couldnโt get it close enough to give myself real chances. Greens were absolutely rapid if you were out of positionโฆ borderline terrifying at times ๐ but I did hole some really good putts to grind out pars and keep the round alive. Only one birdie all day though, and thatโs never going to get it done at this level. Finished +3 (75) โ currently 37th out of 120 (top third of the field), so there are still some positives to take. Battled well, stayed patient, and didnโt let it completely get away from meโwhich is something Iโm trying to get better at in these events. One qualifier down, one more to go in June for The Open Championship. Plenty of work to do before thenโtighten up the driver, sharpen the wedges, and turn a few of those pars into birdies. You ever notice that every so often, a group... of guys who are not exactly athletes invent a โsportโ perfectly engineered around the things they can actually do? The documentary on this is called BASEketball. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, driveway guys, invent a game where you never have to run, you just shoot hoops and trash-talk, and somehow it becomes a professional league. Peak human achievement. A sport designed by people who did not want to move. And once you see it, you see it everywhere. Cricket. Five days. FIVE DAYS. A match can last longer than some marriages and still end in a tie. There are scheduled breaks for lunch and tea. Tea. It is the only sport with a beverage intermission. I respect the skill, truly, but any game where you can stop for a sandwich and nobody loses their place was built by civilized men in no particular hurry. Kabaddi. Now this one I actually love. It is, and I say this with total affection, competitive tag. One guy runs over, chants the word kabaddi over and over so everyone knows he is holding his breath, tries to tag you, and sprints back before your team wrestles him to the ground. That is it. That is the game. We played it in every schoolyard in America and called it โtag, youโre it,โ and somewhere in South Asia they looked at it and said, no, this is a national sport, and honestly, they were right and we were wrong. It is secretly awesome. But before anyone comes for me, let us be honest about our own crimes, because America is deeply guilty of this too. Baseball. We invented a game that is 90 percent standing in a field, chewing, spitting, and adjusting yourself. Three hours to witness about eleven minutes of action. A sport for men who wanted to be outside but not, you know, exert themselves. Golf. A four-hour walk ruined by occasional swinging, with a beverage cart in tow. We built a whole sport around not sweating. NASCAR. Sitting down. Left turns. Four hours. Magnificent, and also, you are seated the entire time. Curling. Our neighbors to the north looked at ice and said, what if we swept it, competitively. Genius. Zero cardio, gold medal. So no, I am not dunking on anybody. I am saying the whole planet keeps quietly inventing games for people who did not want to run, and honestly? Respect. It is the most human thing there is.show more

This took place at the Cincinnati Reds game. A... home run ball got wedged just over the wall and the stands. The stands are a good four-five feet up from the wall. So this dad tells his son to lean over and then grabs him by the feet dangling him over the wall to get the ball. ๐ณ A stadiums employee comes down and grabs the dad by the arm and tells him to stop. ๐ฏ Even the announcer laughs and says โthat dudeโs gonnaโ sacrifice his son.โ A couple of things- one, thatโs a good way to get kicked out of the park. That dad knows he shouldnโt be doing that. Two, itโs just a baseball. I know itโs a home run ball but itโs worth nothing. Maybe sentimental value to look back and say remember when we got that homerun ball? I get it but itโs not worth it. What if his son slipped out of his hands? And the Beast in the backyard is probably going to chew that ball up anyway. Do you understand the fascination of trying to get these home run balls? Heck, think of the chaos for a foul ball- whatโs that all about? Itโs a just a foul ball. Why not go buy a MLB baseball in the souvenir shop?show more

"Heavy lifting is dangerous at your age" is the... most harmful sentence in the field, and a doctor, a physio or a well-meaning relative hands it out every day. Follow it and watch what it does. From your forties you lose muscle every year unless you fight for it. That decline is the whole game: the difference between carrying your own shopping at 80 and waiting for someone to carry it for you. Muscle you don't load shrinks. Bone no longer pulled on turns brittle. Balance you never challenge drains away. Two years of "taking it easy" and you have built the exact frail body everyone feared. The advice didn't prevent the fall. It built the person who couldn't survive one. And here is the lie inside it. Supervised resistance training has one of the lowest injury rates of anything an older adult does. Lower than gardening. Lower than a wet pavement. Lower than the stairs you climb without thinking. So instead they steer you to pilates, aqua aerobics, a gentle tai chi class. Pleasant, sociable, and none of it loads a muscle hard enough to stop it wasting. You feel active while the decline rolls on regardless. Strength is not vanity at this age. It is the garden you kneel in, the stairs you keep, the grandchild you lift. Independence with the years added on. Frightened of a barbell? Fine. You don't need one. Machines are built for exactly this. Fixed path, nothing to wobble sideways. You sit, you're supported, you push. When a set gets hard you stop, and the machine holds the weight, not your spine. A leg press loads your legs as heavy as you'll ever need with almost no way to hurt yourself. Same with a chest press, a row, a pulldown. The decline is coming for everyone. You train against it or you hand years of your life away. The safest tool for the job sits unused in every gym, while the people who need it most get a rubber band and a spot in the church hall. Careful is what's killing them.show more

C Easton Carmichael (Oklahoma Baseball) is one of the... top college catchers in this year's Draft. Started from the get-go as a Freshman and hit .306/.346/.482 with 18 XBH and 48 RBIs. Proceeded to enjoy an outstanding Sophomore campaign to the tune of a .366/.406/.563 slash line with 31 XBH, 64 RBIs and 12 SB. Carmichael was then an All-Star and All-League selection in the Cape League after hitting .299/.372/.496 with 10 2B, 5 HR and 23 RBIs across 36 games. Prototypical catcher's frame at 6'1" and 200-lbs with strength throughout. Slightly crouched stance in the box with a high handset and the bat held horizontally above his back shoulder. Hands drift a little bit in his load, leg lift leads into a normal stride. Does a nice job of getting into his back hip. Average bat speed. Carmichael has an aggressive approach and digs into the box ready to hit. He uses the entire field and has a tick above-average bat-to-ball skills. Has shown the ability to drive the baseball into either gap. Could stand to tighten up his swing decisions a bit; chased at a 35% clip and was particularly susceptible to secondaries down and away. Present barrel skills. Would say his hit tool is a 50 right now, though it's probably closer to a 55. It's more extra-base hit and gap-to-gap power than it is HR power for Carmichael right now, but he has shown he can generate quality contact. Posted a Max EV of 109.5 during the spring and 104.2 on the Cape. If he can pull the ball in the air more (had an Air Pull% of just 20.8 in '24), it could lead to an increase in power production. 50 raw, it plays more like 45 in-game. It's been encouraging to see the progress Carmichael has made defensively. Has gotten better at corralling balls in the dirt and his transfers have gotten quicker. Best part of Carmichael's defensive skillset is his receiving. Soft and quiet, consistently works down to up and has a knack for stealing strikes. Doesn't stab at the baseball. Average arm strength, continuing to shore up his footwork will only help as it pertains to controlling the running game and delivering accurate throws down to bases. A nice cherry on top to Carmichael's profile is that he's far from a clogger on the bases. By no means a burner, but he'll pick his spots to steal a bag. Carmichael has an intriguing toolset and profiles as a 2nd-4th round pick this July. (๐ฝ๏ธ: Oklahoma Baseball)show more

"We do adoption events every month. Yesterday was our... biggest one. Forty-two dogs found homes. It was a wonderful day. Winston did not find a home. He is eleven years old. He is large. He is silver-gray and his whole muzzle is white and his eyes are the color of a winter morning and he is the gentlest dog I have ever put on a leash. He sat in the same spot for six hours. He did not pace. He did not bark. He watched every dog around him get chosen and he wagged his tail for every family that walked past him without stopping. Every single one. For six hours. At 5pm when the last family had left and the last car had pulled out of the parking lot I turned around and Winston was sitting at the edge of the empty lot wagging his tail at the space where the people had been. I sat down on the asphalt beside him. I put my hand on his silver back. He leaned into me. I don't have a word for what I felt. I have worked in rescue for nine years. I have never sat on a parking lot asphalt at the end of a failed adoption event and felt so completely undone and so completely certain simultaneously. Undone because he deserves everything. Certain because he is going to be okay. Both at the same time. Both because of him. He wagged at the empty parking lot. That is who Winston is. That is who he has been every day of his eleven years. Share this for Winston. He wagged at the empty parking lot. The least we can do is find him someone to wag at who stays.show more

And, the way you always keep the most important... person for last, the fact that the apogee of his acceptance speech was about Connor.. he had me sobbing, cause of how completely unguarded and raw Hudson is here. The way the emotion is slowly building up, as he is going down that list, his voice cracking a bit, his hands shaking. And he can feel it slowly, tears forming in his eyes, tears he is holding in the best he can. As he is holding that award, so firmly, that last name on his list, the one that felt like an awakening. He is the one he'd want to hold right there (or rather be held ๐ฅบ). The one who is more than a scene partner, more than a best friend, his "emotional support person in life", his "soulmate", his anchor even. Cracking a joke or two to try to release a bit of pressure, but when comes the point of saying his name "to the honorary Canadian Connor Storrie, I share this award with you." and not find his face, his eyes, his smile in front of him, the absence is screaming in his chest and the tears are closer than ever. Cause to be here, and for that to happen not side by side, like everything they've experienced for the past year or so, this doesn't feel quite right. After a botched summer assignment to a new collegiate league in Texarkana, TX that saw Grant Scholzen sleeping in his car and no host family provided as promised, Grant came home and waited patiently for a summer league call. The MGF Marshalls (who by the way is one of the best run orgs in the country, more on that in a future post!) called and in his 1st game and 2nd AB with a 1-2 count in a left on left matchup with the shadows in play, Grant took a 92 mph FB off the shoulder and into the right side of his face. The only time in 5 years w/o a face shield on his helmet, itโs the only time heโs been hit above the shoulder. Was watching the game on live stream, and it was hard to tell where it actually hit him? Grant immediately started walking to the dugout and I couldnโt figure out why he was doing that, because he should be either staying at home plate gathering his bearings or going to 1B. What you donโt see is the catcher and pitcher who are close friends of Grantโs growing up facing each other in HS and teammates throughout their CBA summer/fall travel ball experiences, looking on with what just happened? The pitcher and catcher who Iโm close with as well, are in shock and the pitcher then walks into the opposing dugout to see if Grant is okay? Grant was okay, but he wasnโt okay?! That helpless feeling again when youโre not there and your son has something almost tragic happen?! I was calling friends who I knew were at the game and they said he had ice on his cheek in the dugout. After the game Grant was going to drive 4 hours home and get home at 3am to attend his cousinโs church service to listen to him speak at his 2 year church missionary farewell. He got home late as I said and woke up yesterday with his face extremely swollen and his eye already black, so we saw his uncle at church, who is a pediatric dentist and he scheduled a CT Scan with an oral surgeon buddy. Grant went in this morning for the scan and to our surprise, NO broken bones. Thank you to the countless people who text and reached out with worry and wanting updates. Itโs that spark of excitement at the start, but when it fades, youโre left with two choices. You either build discipline, or you slip back into old habits. And if right now you donโt feel like you have the strength to want better for yourself, think about the people who love you. They want you here for the long run. They want you at birthdays, at weddings, at family moments that matter. Your partner wants to see you healthy so you can build a future together and pass those habits down to your children. Maybe your reason to change doesnโt start with you, but it can become about you once you decide to try.
