#Cholera remains a major public health threat in Africa, with over 213,500 suspected cases and over 4,400 deaths just in 2025. To tackle this threat, I joined President Hakainde Hichilema and Dr Jean Kaseya in launching the continental preparedness and response plan against cholera, aiming to: 1. Reduce deaths by 90%; 2. Eliminate cholera in 20+ countries in the region; 3. Strengthen preparedness, surveillance and regional collaboration; 4. Drive the whole continent towards elimination by 2030. #Kenya 🇰🇪 has declared a #cholera outbreak in 3 counties, with 97 cases and 6 deaths reported as of 6 April 2025. Ministry of Health, with World Health Organization (WHO) support, has deployed rapid response teams to conduct priority actions, incl. active case finding, case management & provision of cholera kits.
