🚨 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 & 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 🐟🎰 Nearly two years. 12 arrests. Millions of dollars’ worth of seized property—one of the largest seizures in our agency’s history. A crackdown on illegal gaming. Your #JSO Vice Unit spearheaded this multi-agency operation to shut down illegal gaming locations in Jacksonville. From March 2023 to December of this year, detectives worked tirelessly to identify these illegal operations and arrest those who were profiting off them. On December 11th, we served seven search warrants simultaneously, capturing those responsible for these illegal gaming rooms. ITEMS SEIZED 🎰 263 illegal gambling devices, including slot machines, fish tables, and desktop computers 💰 $2.5M in illegally sourced cash 💎 $1.2M in jewelry, watches, and purses (paid for with illegally obtained money) 🏎️ 15 vehicles and a trailer (valued at almost $1.7M, paid for with illegally obtained money) 🔫 52 firearms 🏘️ 2 houses 🏢 1 commercial building This operation is about much more than shutting down illegal businesses; it’s about keeping your neighborhood safe. Where there is illegal business, there is violence. During the timeframe of Operation Fish & Chips, two people were killed at illegal gaming locations across Duval County. There were also 8 robberies and 26 aggravated assaults at these sites. Shutting these locations down removes one accelerant that fuels violence in our community. We want to thank our state and federal partners for their role in Operation Fish & Chips: Florida’s Attorney General’s Office statewide prosecution, the Florida Gaming Control Commission, the United States Secret Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

🚫PUBLIC CAMPING ORDINANCE ENFORCEMENT 🚫 The warning period is over. Your #JSO has started enforcing the new law banning unauthorized public camping and sleeping. Since October 1, officers have been notifying individuals about this ordinance and informing them of available resources to help transition off the streets. On November 1, the enforcement period began. 📊 Since then: Arrests: 23 Notices to Appear: 17 JSO is committed to enforcing this law in line with Florida state statutes and city ordinance. In this video, JSO District 1 Walking Beat and Bike Unit officers contact individuals in violation. Our goal is to connect each person with resources and work compassionately to help ensure everyone has a roof over their heads. 🏠 We’re working closely with partners at the City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department, and numerous non-profits and shelters across the county. One key program is Homeward Bound, a JSO-funded initiative providing bus tickets home and connecting travelers with local resources. 🚍 Since October 1, this program has assisted 42 travelers, totaling 240 this year. From the Mass of Christian Burial to the cemetery service, the outpouring of support and love for McNew’s family, friends, and colleagues was overwhelming. He lived as a hero and died as a hero.
