This madness in #Tigray must stop! This evening, armed militants from a criminal group of Army 60 opened fire on mothers who courageously opposed the forced conscription of their children in Hagereselam, Dogu'a Tembien, #Tigray, #Ethiopia. This is not an isolated incident. Similar abuses are unfolding across Tigray, turning the region into a place of fear and suffering. The violence continues, and silence only emboldens those responsible. The people of Tigray deserve peace, justice, accountability, and protection. The Federal government and the international community must not look away. Human Rights Watch U.S. Embassy Addis EU in Ethiopia / የአውሮፓ ህብረት በኢትዮጵያ UK in Ethiopia 🇬🇧 UN Human Rights

As armed forces, loyal to TPLF hardliners, have been conducting aggressive military conscription throughout #Tigray, people are angrily protesting even by attacking the buses that were used to kidnap their kids in #Mekelle, as seen in the video. This footage was taken in Abiy Adi, #Tembien, #Tigray, where young people are reportedly being rounded up in the evening for forced military conscription. Yesterday, a bank in the same town was closed after staff were detained by militants. Similar stories throughout the region. The madness continues, and it must stop. Silence only emboldens further suffering. A shocking video clip (with English translation) ⬇️ out from the violently occupied #Irob district, Eastern Zone of #Tigray, confirms only what we already know: The #Eritrean regime is forcing a false Eritrean identity on the indigenous #Irob minority people with denial of aid & essential services & threatening them to comply with its compulsory 🇪🇷|n national military service (known as an indefinite slavery program) as they have forcibly been annexed to Eritrea. The video was filmed at a locality called #Alakalo, at Masi-Dage (junior high school) in Adgadi-Are/Edalgeda (northern subdistrict of Irob). #EritreaOutOfTigray Department of State Foreign Policy CAN Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office European External Action Service - EEAS 🇪🇺 Mike Hammer Getachew K Reda Office of the Prime Minister - Ethiopia African Union Office of the 4th President of Kenya. UN Human Rights Human Rights Watch Amnesty International Here is the English translation of the video clip in Tigrinya: “As Eritreans, you too have to support the struggle of Eritreans and the Eritrean government. We are all Eritreans; there isn’t a distinction between you and us. • All Eritreans must know that the Eritrean government was forced into the struggle and the suffering that is being faced; it had no desire to take part in it. • Weyane (TPLF) is an agent; it doesn’t have the strength to challenge the Eritrean government. Both in the past (Ethio-Eritrean war) and presently, it is doing the bidding of other forces which are backing it. • The struggle of the people and government of Eritrea is also your struggle. You should be proud of it. You should understand that the Eritrean government is winning by enduring all the sanctions and challenges not against the TPLF but the world. You should be proud of it if you are Eritrean. • One elderly man has said, “We (the people of Irob) have gotten used to unlimited democracy under the TPLF leadership. Now you are telling us that we are under your administration. But you won’t be able to tolerate our ways.” This talk is what continues to be propagated. When we tread on this land of martyrs, we tread on it softly. But what has been coming from this side (TPLF) is very much despicable. You are people. But this is Eritrean territory. If you are Eritreans, you have to defend against what comes from the other side and collaborate with the Eritrean army. • What is being reported is that there is no one from Irob who is providing information or collaborating with the Eritrean army. We will investigate it. • The other thing is, it is being said that the Irob, although they consider themselves as Eritreans, have disagreements with the Eritrean government regarding humanitarian aid and the national service. But if you are Eritreans, whether you like it or not, you will have to go through the things that every Eritrean experiences. • During the armed struggle, fighters who joined the Eritrean struggle from Irob have done their national duty and been martyred. Although, during the war, the land (of Irob) may, at different times, have switched hands between Eritrea and the TPLF, you know that your children and brothers have paid sacrifices for Eritrea during the armed struggle. • If there is anyone who believes they are Ethiopian, the Eritrean government will not force anyone to remain here. But this territory belongs to Eritrea. And Eritreans reside on Eritrean territory. And Eritreans must abide by Eritrean rule like the other (Eritrean) people. If there is famine, you should starve like everyone else. If a few grains come, then you divide it with them and live like that. There will not be any preference. • Regarding security in particular, lawlessness has been prevailing. They come from Adigrat and spend the night here; they go from here and spend the night in Senafe. And you don’t report this to us. Unless you provide information, the social service that you have been asking will not be provided. If you defend your homeland and your area, adequate social service will be provided as it will be able to continue preserving its peace. If you don’t collaborate, however, your demands will not be addressed. So, who is going to suffer? It is you who will suffer.” 1/2👇

📌 The way #TPLF has been COMPLETELY rebuffed by the youth in #Tigray is a pleasant surprise. This video clip is one of the many examples of resistance to #TPLF's tyranny in #Tigray In the clip, some youth, who fought on behalf of #TPLF, during the devastating war of 2020 - 2022 are now proudly donning #Ethiopia 🇪🇹 army uniform and declaring how proud they are for displaying it. The speaker is addressing those who criticize them for wearing the uniform saying that he and his friends are proud to display the insignia that says "Ethiopian army", because "they are Ethiopians, but nothing else". (Warning :- some crude language is used, perhaps for emphasis of their point) He concluded his speech with a Tigrigna slogan ኢትዮጵያ ትስዕር ፣ to mean "Ethiopia wins" an improved version, replacing ትግራይ ትስዕር (Tigray wins), which was a popular slogan among Tigrians, during the two year of devastating conflict. P.S Sincere apologies for the crude language and gestures displayed at the end of the video.

WATCH: #Addis_Standard journalist questions AU Election Observation Mission head Uhuru Kenyatta on #Tigray’s exclusion from Ethiopia’s 1 June general elections, concerns over media freedom, and the competitiveness of the polls. Kenyatta said election board has indicated it is prepared to conduct elections in Tigray and other constituencies excluded from voting once security conditions permit. He did not, however, directly address questions regarding the shrinking media freedom and regulatory actions taken against media outlets. (Video: Addis Standard)

To the people of #Tigray: I watch with aching heart as you commemorate the sacrifices of your heroes and heroines who lost their precious lives protecting Tigray at the battlefield or for simply being at home, and I grieve with you. 💔 As you go through this excruciating moment of committing the sacrifices of your martyred into its rightful place of your lived memories, and as you try to move forward without justice and reconciliation on your side, I am reminded that this martyrdom is a martyrdom against a genocidal war determined as crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crimes of forced deportation and ethnic cleansing. It couldn’t have been determined by its rightful name, genocide, to give “peace a chance”, when that peace was what Tigray deserved all along. It is a sacrifice paid against a genocidal war that couldn’t have been determined by its rightful name of the crimes of genocide and extermination for lack of “time and resource.” I grieve for you. We failed you, the world failed you; but even through this painful moment, you continued to show us that your fight for freedom and the right to your self determination will go on no matter what. ❤️💛
