Thank you President NikosChristodoulides for the warm welcome back to Nicosia on my #TourdesCapitales. 🇨🇾 The Cyprus Presidency played a key role in the preparations for the EU’s next long-term budget. Now we need to accelerate the work towards an agreement before the end of 2026. Cyprus is a key bridge to the Middle East, a region that remains a priority for the EU. We are strengthening our relationship with partners in the region. I am looking forward to the summit we will hold with Gulf partners on 24 October. Finally, I reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to progress on the Cyprus issue, on the basis of the UNSC resolutions and international law. With Nicușor Dan in Bucharest, on my #TourdesCapitales. 🇷🇴 We discussed the security situation on our Eastern border and the Black Sea, and I thanked Nicușor Dan and Romania for an unwavering commitment to Europe’s security. We agreed that Russia’s escalation will not weaken European unity – quite the opposite. We also focussed on our next long-term budget, which will strengthen Europe’s defence and security – as well as contributing to growth, prosperity, and competitiveness. Mă bucur să fiu în România!

Very constructive meeting with Janez Janša, as I conclude the second week of my #TourdesCapitales in Ljubljana. 🇸🇮 A new geopolitical reality calls for a new approach to the next long-term EU budget, with a new structure and a new way of allocating our resources. Our timeline is clear - agree in 2026, legislate and prepare in 2027, deliver the funding in 2028. I commend and thank Slovenia for its steadfast support for enlargement. There is real momentum in this process. Reforms by candidates are paying off and must continue. ¡Lepo je obiskati Slovenijo!

Very good discussion with Prime Minister GR Kyriakos Mitsotakis as I continue my #TourdesCapitales in Athens. 🇬🇷 The events of this summer, from the devastating wildfires and natural disasters to the impacts of the war in the Middle East and Russian hybrid attacks, have once again shown that Europe must be prepared to respond effectively to unforeseen challenges. That’s why we need to reach agreement this year on a long-term budget that gives us the capacity to act. Greece is in a strategic position in the Mediterranean and towards the Middle East.
