Karnatka's Hate Speech Bill: Congress government in Karnataka has tabled a bill that claims to curb hate speech, but it attempts to risk free speech! The wording of the bill is vague and open to interpretation, which means even ordinary statements could be judged as ill will and lead to serious criminal action. India already has laws to deal with hate speech, and even the Supreme Court has said that the real problem is weak enforcement, not the absence of law. When the line between free speech and crime becomes unclear, people begin to self censor out of fear rather than responsibility!

I tabled a petition from Canadians concerned about Bill C-9. Hate speech is already illegal under sections 318 and 319 of the Criminal Code. Petitioners are not asking for less protection. They are asking Parliament not to remove long-standing safeguards that protect sincerely held beliefs expressed in good faith. Bill C-9 risks expanding government power while weakening important Charter protections. When Canadians take the time to defend their fundamental freedoms, Parliament has a duty to listen.

Canadians should not be threated with unprecedented police powers to suppress speech online. But for every societal problem, the Liberals' first instinct is to erode the freedoms of Canadians. Thank you to the many residents of York-Durham who have written to me about this. I will keep fighting against the kinds of attacks on personal freedom the government has introduced in Bills C-2, C-8, and C-9.

Here is a question for all of you: Do you believe we should be making it easier for our government to prosecute and jail Canadians based not on their actions – but on their words? To criminalize speech and prosecute those for expressing sincerely held religious beliefs? For me, the answer will always be no. Free speech, free expression and freedom of religion are foundational principles upon which our nation, and Western civilization, is built. I will always defend these fundamental Charter rights. My full speech opposing the Liberal censorship bill, C-9.

Australia's new “Combating Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill” is perhaps the most egregious attack on free speech I've ever seen. The Australian government is trying to punish all speech that could theoretically "cause fear," even if no actual harm ever occurred by locking you up for 5+ years in prison. They're going after your tweets, blogs, memes, and even quoting scripture as dangerously evil "hate speech," offering protections for Muslims and Jews to speak their mind, but not Catholics or other Christians. PLUS - they want to ban certain groups from Australia carpe blanche, throwing you in prison for 15 YEARS for supporting them.
