When a driver fled from Port Orange Police Department, swerved through traffic, ran red lights and hit 118 mph up and down I-95, he put everyone on the road in danger. His reckless ride came to an end this morning when Mike Chitwood executed a P.I.T. maneuver and took him into custody. Christian Will Ottinot, 24, of Broward County, is charged with fleeing from law enforcement, reckless driving, and a Florida Super Speeder violation along with numerous criminal traffic citations.

Heroic Action on Hwy 36: On May 25, 2025, at 5:10 AM, Sgt. McKim stopped a driver who was traveling on the wrong side of Highway 36. The driver reached speeds of up to 110 mph at times, and several cars had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision. Thanks to her quick response, no one was hurt. The driver was arrested without incident and now faces charges including DUI, drug possession, and multiple traffic violations. Well done, Sgt. McKim! If you see a car driving on the wrong side of the road, pull over, stop at a safe location, and call 911 immediately. We’d also like to thank our partners at the Boulder Police Department for their assistance on this call. As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.

A motorcyclist fleeing police at up to 140 mph made headlines in a high-speed chase through the Detroit suburbs, riding the wrong way on I-75 and taunting officers. The biker was eventually apprehended after running out of fuel. Thanks to the real-time use of technology and diligent, on scene investigative work of our officers on patrol and in the Real Time Information Center, 30-year-old Rafael Gutierrez of Sacramento was identified as the suspect in this hit-and-run collision. Shortly after leaving the collision, officers located Gutierrez at a nearby hospital and arrested him on charges related to felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, and driving while his license is suspended/revoked. Thankfully, the other party involved in the collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries. We all share a responsibility to keep our roadways safe. Reckless driving is entirely avoidable and endangers everyone. Fleeing the scene of a collision you're involved in is illegal and will not be tolerated. Crimes like this threaten our community, and we will continue to use the tools and resources available to identify suspects and ensure they are held accountable.
