This is exactly why things break so easily on newer cars. Crinkle points. The energy being released from your bumper, cross members, fenders, all crinkling reduce the overall movement of the energy. Older cars don't have crinkle points like newer cars, so when in a bad accident, the energy is transferred through to the cabin.

Still horrible that they destroyed a museum-quality 1959 Impala for that pointless "test," as if anyone in the market for a new car was considering a 1959 model, or anyone in the market for a '50s car would consider a modern one an acceptable substitute.
