Great article and impressive body of work. Haven’t come across a better formulation of what I’ve been thinking than this one here from the article: “I see XR as able to break down the barriers of prior training and possible failures in the field, and instead working with robots becomes an enriching experience for both person and machine.” Definitely going to watch the AWE talk when I’m home later - thanks for the reply! 🙂

@lenslist @UnitreeRobotics @dimensionalos If the movement data from the drone is reasonably accurate it would work with just an initial scan of the tag. Could also have some CV for detecting it in the air. What definitely works is doing this with manipulators… 🙂

I’m giving an agent control over Reachy Mini from Hugging Face and letting it understand and share spatial data via Specs for Devs AR is the human interface for robotics and physical AI imo. It feels like absolute magic to interact with this, both in voice/agent and “puppeteering” mode. I’ll probably work on AR for either an arm (manipulation tasks) or some sort of drone (locomotion in 3D space) next… Project is fully open source btw: Thank you SensAI Hackademy for sending me the robot!

Out of all the GPT-6 news today, I feel like this completely flew under the radar because Snap buried it inside a long, dark livestream. They just showed SPECS, and unlike Meta’s current AR setup that leans on an EMG wristband, Snap is doing the interface natively through your hands + voice. The menu literally sits in your palm, lifting your hand brings up a cursor, and you can move through apps/lenses and interact with the UI directly in space with no puck or tether. The Meta wristband can still do more precise/subtle inputs and works even when your hands aren’t visible, so it’s not strictly “better.” But SPECS genuinely looks more freeing - just raise your hand and start interacting with the world around you. This is probably the closest I’ve seen AR glasses get to actually feeling natural!

And to that end, here’s a project a couple of us have been hacking away on, and the team is ready to add people in mass to the TestFlight. It’s an open source version of a visual programming environment, similar to Origami or Quartz Composer. In addition to being able to build anything those two can, it also supports AR, CoreML, and native 3D support. As well as being built in SwiftUI, so it runs on basically any Apple device and is easy to hack on and improve.

Day 2 of recreating Meta’s new AR glasses on my Quest. After adding microgestures to navigate the UI. Today, I built a simple camera that can zoom using Pinch and Twist. It felt really cool to scroll through all the pictures I took in the carousel. But the best addition is definitely the contextual AI that lets me send whatever I’m looking at to an AI and instantly get more information. This project is getting more and more challenging but I'm having a lot of fun and it's cool to see the potential of these new AR glasses. New UI in FSD V14.3.2 for interventions. I think this is great, but one of the options should be navigation and as far as I can tell it doesn’t go away? I’m sitting here parked and it’s staying up on my screen.
